Computer did automatic updates now can't install adobe flash player?

Our computer did an automatic update now we have the interenet explorer 8 and when we go to do anything that needs flash player it says we need to install it well when we do this we can't get the install active x bar all that ours says at the top now is internet explorer is currently running with add-ons disabled click here to manage disable or remove add ons what can i do so i can install flash player
