computer and stereo problem?

Your friend notices that her computer does not work when a nearby stereo is on. What could be the problem, and how could you correct this situation is both devices are to be on at the same time?

This is physics related as it is a question I received in physics class to answer.

The most likely problem is that both units use up too much power to be plugged into the same extension cord (likely) or wall outlet (less likely). Most plugs are rated at 15 amps, which should be enough for both devices unless the computer has lots of peripherals and the stereo is extremely powerful. However, an extension cord probably carries much less power, so there is not enough power for both units. In this case, use a second extension cord.
