composing rock music. where do YOU begin in your development of a song?

i start with a someone general way the song might song. normally starts with a hum. then maybe straight to a keyboard or guitar. make drums to accompany. then bass. bass might restructure quite a bit. i like to but in keyboard strings in my music. like red or something. everstep of mine gives thought towards how they fit with lyrics. now im curious on other methods
