Im looking for advice on how to work better with the VA DR. Little back ground info, I suffered a fall back in 2002 when i was in the army, Other injury's healed but strange things were still going on in 2003 i had my first EEG it came back positive was 30min sleep study. About 3 months later i was sent to another hospital and had another EEG done this time nothing happened. Then i had 3 2 months after that this time it was full of activity. But some how i was let go from the army under a mental disorder. After working with the VA for all 2004 and being denied for seizures i just went on my way. In in Dec 2005 i lost my job do to having to many seizures at work. When i went back to the VA for help they did nothing. So i spent all the money me and the wife had going to see a Dr. Had 2 more EEG and then was told i had complex Partial seizures. I took the new info to the VA hoping it would help my care and in 2007 i was given 20% disability for it. But the care to say the least as been hard to come by. The va still to this day not run any test, when they ask me how many i have i can not tell them much about what happens i just don't remember. They also do not let my wife or others who have seen me have them that would no more in the room with me or talk to them to get better understanding. Now im still out of work mainly do to not be-able to drive. But every time a go it the same med that has not worked before they put me on and tell me to have a nice day. 2-3 hours drive there an back to get a 5min appointment that really did nothing to help fix the problem.

Sorry it was long winded, But just looking for advice to help me get the care i need and make it more smooth for the Dr. and me ((oh ya most the time the Dr. i have to see do not speak very good English.

hayesj6: You need to apply for SSI disability. It's too bad that you haven't been keeping track of these seizures on a calendar. Start doing it today!!!!! What meds have they put you on? Sometimes they don't work - they don't work for me. All they do is slow down the amount of them happening.

Have you had an MRI? That would show more than an EEG. It would show if there was something on the brain caused by your fall that is causing the seizures. You need to get some better testing done to see if they are, infact, caused by the fall you had. Because if they're not then it's a whole different issue.

These doctors should allow you to have people that are witnesses explain what's going on so they know what type of seizure it is. It's too bad they're giving you the runaround. Go to your local SSI office and file. You might get denied at first but you'll have to appeal. Get a lawyer if you have to. SS is in a mess and they're denying people as much as they can because of the state of affairs they're in money-wise. You worked for the USG!!!! They should take care of you. You might also want to post your post on the EPILEPSY board to see if anyone else has further suggestions.
