How to flash a USB720 USB Modem from Verizon Wireless to Cricket. EVDO works on mine but that may be a fluke. If not, editing some files may allow EVDO.

First get the drivers:
Go to www.vzw.com
Go to the Support drop down menu in the RED bar and pick Phones & Devices.
Select phone/device brand:Verizon Wireless
Find "Verizon Wireless USB720 Modem
At the bottom of the USB720 page you will see DownloaRAB: VZAccess Manager Software.
Get It!
Reason: Don't have any software for this device.
Enter any valid Verizon Wireless Nuraber.
DOWNLOAD!
Run program and click Next until it is Finished
Click Finish.
Wait and another setup window will pop up.
Go to Next, then Detect WWAN devices only, Next, Next.

NOW YOU PLUG in the USB720 and it will set it up with the right drivers and you will be able to see it as a phone in QPST.
Close VZAcess Manager. You could use it but I don't recommend it (Go to Computer Setup TowarRAB Bottom)

Once you can see it in QPST:
Go to Service Programming.
Read the Phone
Go to theROAM Tab.
Upload a good prl (preferably with EVDO)
Go to the M.IP Tab.
Change Mobile IP Behavior to Simple IP Only.
Go to the PPP Config Tab
Go to both the Um and AN tabs within PPP Config and change the Usernames and PassworRAB to [email protected] and cricket respectively.
Write to Phone.
DONE!

Computer Setup:
Now you have to set up the USB720 to use with your computer, here is how...

Go to Control Panel
Go to Network Connections
Go to New Connection Wizard
Click Next
Chose "Connect to the Internet" and click Next
Chose "Set up my connection manually" and click Next
Chose "Connect using a dial up modem" and click Next
Select the Novatel.... USB modem and click Next
Choose an ISP Name (Will be on your Desktop when we are done, I always use CricketNET) and click Next
Phone Nuraber is #777, click Next
Username and Password are [email protected] and cricket respectively, don't forget to confirm the password!
Make your own choices as far as the 3 options go, I leave them checked.
Click Next.
Check "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop".
Click Finish

Now you just double click on the shortcut that you made and click dial and you will connect to the internet.

Don't forget to change the proxy to Cricket's settings in your browser.
For Firefox:
Go to Tools>Options in the top menu
Go to the Advanced Section, then the Network Tab
Go to Settings Near the top.
Choose Manual proxy configuration
HTTP Proxy is wap.mycricket.com
Port is 8080
Check "Use this proxy for all protocols".
Click OK
Click OK
Surf the Internet!

For Internet Explorer:
Go to Tools>Internet Options in the top menu
Go to the Connections TAB
Click Settings... under Add and Remove
Check "Use a proxy server for this connection..."
Address: wap.mycricket.com
Port: 8080
Fill Out Dial Up settings with usual Uername and Password, Leave domain blank.
Surf the Internet!

Enjoy decent speed as you will have to activate this as a phone and won't get full Broadband speeRAB. Hopefully the speed goes back up when they are done with EVDO and all the other stuff they are working on.

ENJOY!!! :buddies:

If anyone knows how to flash a PC5750 or any other PC Card please help me out in this thread. Thanks!

Hey man, great write up! I've always wondered how to do this and now I have an excellent guide to follow. Thanks man!

anybody know how to unlock the sprint carRAB? i have a sierra wireless compass 597. i got it to read by downloading sprint smartview for drivers and got it to read on cdma workshop but its locked and im not sure how to unlock it. good tutorial though stevekice.

i alreaedy did this one, but was wondering about your method for changing accounts...

seems i have to reprogram it a million times before it stops giving me the username/password error...that only happens when i try to program it to a different account...

i have also done the v620...i guess i'll add that one later...

on a side note cricket will be getting an even lower priced usb modem next year with memory card reader built in. i do not know the manufacturer

Hey Steve do you think this would work on the USB727 ? It has a micro SD card slot for extra storage and has a smaller profile. I think it is cdma. A bit more pricey than the USB720 though, even on ebay!

yo- i just noticed that your guide is for the verizon version...the one i did had sprint firm but was unbranded...i think it was an mvno aircard...i got the spc code from it...forgot the address, but i'll look it up later and post it here...

That address would make this tutorial more complete, that would be great. And those drivers were the same ones I already had, no luck with the PC Card, but I think it might be the PC Card itself that's the problem. I DID get it from a pawn shop after all. We'll see.

has anyone else had success using this method, also would this be on a data plan or a plan just like a phone? Please let me know.......
