Haha
I've still got mine to come...Does helping disabled people count?
*enters silly ramble for the sake of it*
I'm out tonight helping at D of E (Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme for those who don't know about it, visit www.theaward.org ) They run a Mixed Abilities course for mentally and physically disabled teenagers and young adults. It's not only a great experience for them but also a great experience for the leaders involved in helping them through it.
It can often be quite challenging, persuading someone with the mental capabilities of a 6 year old, and the physical capablities of a 3 year old, to light a camp stove and cook over flames can often be fairly daunting!! As I said I help at the centre with the MAs at Bronze and Silver level.
Very interesting experiences to be had!! Great fun though, and gives you a great feeling of satisfaction at the end as well!! (I'm only a leader because of my skills in the outdoors - an Ex-mountain rescue leader I used to walk with gave up trying to teach me the necessary skills because I knew everything he could throw at me. I could also keep up with him on a week long expedition
)
Right I'm going now, before I totally lose the plot.
Talk later!!
