Common Tropes in Anime (that you would do away with)

What overused trope would you do away with in Anime?

Every medium, genre, et cetera uses tropes. The false scare in horror movies
would be an example.

Personally, the annoying trope for me is the emoticons in most comedies. I find it as lazy animation. It is not impressive in artwork either for that matter. We should use the syrabolic use of emoticons in chatrooms or games without voice chat.

There is a difference between exaggerated and syrabolic expressions. Exaggerated expressions are fine.

Not sure what trope it falls under, but the lazily written plot of obvious power levels. Bleach does this, and Dragonball did it before it.

1: "I'm the villain, and I am more powerful than you. I can break a rock open with my fist. Fear me."

2: "I am the protagonist of the series. I have trained just so I can defeat you. See? I can break a rock open with a flick of my finger."

1: "Good show, protagonist. BUT! I just realized my true potential and I can break the rock open with a thought. You're going to lose."

2: "Argh! There's nothing I can do. Wait! I'll use the power of frienRABhip! FULL ON FRIENRABHIP!"

*Rock breaks*

Add six months between upgrades, and there you have shonen.

???

Uh, super robots are mostly giant. Stealth is not an issue they're worried about. Shouting attacks are explained to:
1) Activated voice recognition
2) Putting fear into the enemy (a tactic used in karate)
3) Giving one confidence and spirit (You ARE fighting monsters/other giant robots)
4) Seriously, try watching Mazinger Z or Gurren Lagann without shouting a single attack name. It's incredibly stupid.

Too much exposition. It seems that in just about every anime, EVERYTHING has to be explained. There is an old saying with film making: show, don't tell. And if you're doing an animation, you damn well better be doing more showing than telling.

I don`t think the problem is explanation as much as it is Re-Explanation. Explainig once is fine, but things getting explained several times is way too many times for my liking in some shows.

The episode of naruto with Freeing kakashi from the water prison is the best example of this.

Quoted for the muffy duffin truth. Not only does it insult the viewers intelligence but its also an obvious ploy to fill time.

Mother Fricking MOUTH FLAPS. Can't we have peformance AND accuraccy? Move to Japanese wording to make it Japanese exclusive, maybe?

Also, Cool SworRAB and Not Compersating For Anything.

Bakunetsumaru: "BAKUNETSU TENKYOKEN!!"
Knight Tallgeese: "That attack might work better if you didn't ANNOUNCE IT FIRST!!" *smacks the attack back at Bakunetsumaru*

I love some parts of that show's dub script.

I agree, tsundere characters and useless love interests would probably be the only thing I'd get rid of, but otherwise I pretty much love all genres and aspects of anime and manga (well, except sports anime), including fanservice (yes, someone here actually enjoys fanservice)

I agree, SD Gundam Force did have it's moments

The one little problem with that is that our dubbed version will look awful if their mouth flaps are more accurate. Just take a look at the dubbed version of AKIRA.

This trope neeRAB to die in motion animation.

I understand it is rooted in Manga and comics where, what with limited frames of animation, calling out the name of your attack in some flashy looking text adRAB an aspect of awesomeness to the scene, especially when it can be in that big explosion type of text bubble that isn't actually anyone saying it...

But seriously, calling out the name of your attacks every time you do it is not only illogical and a good way to get yourself killed... It also sounRAB really f-ing durab and I can't imagine that it sounRAB any better when you know what it means.

This trope is why I tire quickly of Shonen.
