Come have a Rant about Hollywood

People will probably complain that im complaining but im so sick of all these remakes and sequels.

Hollywood must have a million writers so why can't they come up with a film that will blow us all away.

All the stories seem to be changed slightly with a different cast (this is the case with all these horror films).

I want something fresh so I won't feel like I have thrown money away when i walk out of the cinema room.

And the Actors annoy me aswell....its always about their personal lives rather than their work and films...and most of the new members to the hollywood acting list are absolutely woeful (Miley cyrus...stick to Disney or singing)...she seems to be such a big hollywood actress that she gets to present an award at the Oscars...what a joke.

Hollywood bug anyone else?

^ ^ I'd like to echo prankz comment.

Also, Hollywood are only interested in money. nothing else. they don't want to create something thought provoking. Money money money money

I could go on.

film making is combination of art and commerce. Most attempts will inevitably fail, its just the nature of creation. Hand an indie film maker some big budget property and half the time they fail anyways. There is no garrantee of success, things can be the result of a perfect storm. So many design decisions on the original starwars were compromises and not the original directors vision for example.

Gotta Agree with the op, All these remakes make my blood boil

I think its money as other posters have said, film companies just don't seem to want to take the risk these days, unless you are Spielberg or Cameron or of that calibre then its hard to get the film made.

Also will someone please stop Michael Bay and his cronies as they seem to be the worse

Rant over lol :D

My main gripes with Hollywood is that they're now so afraid of box office failure that they'll generally only fund things that are guaranteed to make money (star-vehicles, OTT effects heavy popcorn fluff like 2012, popular comic book characters etc) or remakes of things that made money in the past/elsewhere in the world. Occasionally they'll let something original through but those tend to be the cheap to make films.

Ok that's a bit of a generalisation but it tenRAB to be true.

Meanwhile there are thousanRAB of books out there that are begging to be made into films.

We-ell... Hollywood will only survive as long as people want to watch 'Hollywood' movies...:)

I have nothing at all against a nice big entertaining blockbuster. Independence Day, Day After Tomorrow etc etc. Nice to turn your mind off now and again and just be entertained.:)

I do prefer lower-budget indie films though...;)

I couldn't agree more. Who on earth decides on what gets made into a movie or not? I hate teen horrors... particularly American teen horrors where everybody is so goodlooking they all look the same.

They haven't run out of ideas, they have run out of courage to take a financial risk on backing a new idea that may tank. These are tough times, and studios want to make money first and foremost, so backing a tried and tested story, or a previously successful franchise seems the safest option.

Is it possibly also that they are mostly aiming for a different market now? Hollywood used to turn out film after film with big names who were a guaranteed draw, but the difference was that they were aimed at older audiences who wanted a subtle, witty script and a bit of tension between the leaRAB. That kind of film is rare nowadays, maybe because the studios' perception is that younger audiences don't want subtlety and tension, they want in-your-faceitude.

I agree totally and in addition it has created another genre the teen horror film parody/satire (which is just a modern teen version of Kentucky Fried Movie and Amazon Woman on the Moon etc) like the Scary Movie series which itself is in danger of getting samey and stale (or has it already).

But Gung Ho is good in the right hanRAB! You have to have a certain panache to carry it off of course. Sly Stallone is crap at it, but Will Smiff and Jeff Gold-Fly carried it off nicely. Tongue in cheek...

Didn't your chest swell with pride when President Bill Pulman made his BIG SPEECH? :D I know mine did.... well, something swelled with pride anyway...

This we can agree on 100%. Hideous rubbish! I hate how the not-so-pretty girl is only made so by, er, wearing glasses or something! Sheesh...

I'm sure there are factories which churn out these completely anonymous 'teens'.
