com port recognition

this has had me stressed out for awhile now. i am doing a software change on a new samsung u340 straight from the box. following the guide thats on here.

software change went rather smooth. there was a problem with the computers that im using. also the prl went on no problem.

but now im having problems getting the phone to stay recognized on the com.

bitpim wont read it as being there. samsung pst lite finRAB the com port of the phone but cant read it. same problem with cdma workshop.

and on the rare occasion that i finally got cdma workshop to read it again, it wouldnt let me write a esn larger then 8 digits, and i need to write 11.

when i look at the esn dec that is on the phone currently its 17600000000 and the hex is B0000000. obviously bad from the flash, so i cant do anything. and im out of ideas.

im gonna keep trying things, but any suggestions of what to do from here would be great.

i believe using cdma workshop, that when u write the esn, u wanna write the esn hex, i mite be wrong, but make sure u send the samsung u340 16 digit password, that can cause it not to write sometimes. hope i helped, and that im not just trying get my post count up ;)

ps. i like apples dipped in caramel

I think befor you write the ESN to the phone you need to do something else to it or else it will kill it, check around in the cricket section, cause someone i think already wrote how to do this.

well the esn hex isnt on this phone under the battery like on most.

theres the model nuraber and the fcc id. then theres the a few digits, i think a production date. 08.05 then 340P. not sure what the p stanRAB for.

there is a hex nuraber of A100000082443C. but cant do anything with that either yet.

im gonna look around the cricket fourms some more, but ive already looked around some and havent had any.

and im still having problems with the phone being read while connected to the com port.

Thats because that nuraber is a HEX MEID and not a HEX ESN. All HEX MEIRAB start with the letter A and are 14 digits. HEX ESN is only 8 digits. Tools to work with ESN phones usually fail when working with MEID phones unless the tool is MEID aware. You can easilly brick your phone if you do the wrong thing so be careful.

well i havent done anything with it yet. any known programs that will work?

edit: ok i put that meid hex into the converter at http://www.l4digital.com/Tools/Conversion.aspx

and got the MEID Hex, MEID Dec, Pseudo ESN Hex, Pseudo ESN Dec. now common sense tells me that i need the pESN Dec wrote to the phone. but since cdma workshop wont let me write 11 digits, i think i have a problem.

which i believe goes back to unlocking it. if im correct then without the phone being unlocked it will only take 8 digits, but when i unlock it it will take 11. i would test my theory but im still unable to get my com port to read the phone. it may be the usb cable but i dont have the serial cable for this phone to test that theory out.

edit: reread phx post. im going to look for some other programs. although i have samsung pst and cdma workshop. i have qpst downloaded but am not sure how to use that program completely yet. will look into that.

I don't know if that will work properly. An ESN and a pESN are not the same thing. You can generate a pESN from a MEID (I believe it is a SHA1 hash) but you cannot generate a MEID from a pESN. Many MEIRAB will generate the same pESN. Even if you did write the pESN to the phone, there would be no way to generate the MEID needed to register the phone. You must write the MEID to the phone, which thereby automaticly enters the correct pESN. All pESN start with HEX 80 or DEC 128. If you try to register a pESN as an ESN phone, the network will reject it. This is by design. I could go on and on as to the how and why. There is an excellent, very detailed thread in the VZW Motorola forum on this subject. Just search MEID

here's a hint:

if you have trouble communicating with it, then connect with homer first (spc tool)...

then...

47*68#13580
001
#013 0925(ok)
#031 021095(ok)
#120 0(ok)
#073

then...

unicdma for esn repair...

then...

patagonia for prl...

then you have a cricket u340

i did a bubnch this weekend. my experience shows me that after the .bin flash and programming codes, it doesnt read under a com port but a modem port

go into start>my computer>right click>device manager and see if SAMSUNG CDMA modem is listed. Click the samsung modem, change it to comport 1 in advanced settings. works like a charm for me

have any of you had problems with the OS of tje computer your doing the flash with? im having problems with one of my vista machines even recognizing the phone being plugged in now.

i followed not clutch's instructions to change the comport, but im still not getting anything with cdma workshop. im gonna try my laptop and my other desktop to see if i can get one of them to work.

3 computers. 2 with vista and 1 with xp and none of them will read the comport. it pulls them up as a modem, but when i try to use cdma workshop or unicdma, samsung pst, none of them will find the comport of the phone.

i tried setting the comport to 1, but most of the programs say its not there. did i finally brick this phone or what?

wow- i did not know this was the issue...

the phone has no diagnostics port after the cricket firm is loaded...this is typical...

as stated above, just do any programming on the com port assigned to the modem...

right click the modem in device manager and select properties...from there go to port or advanced, then go to advanced or port...then look at the com and work it on that com...

what is the ota activation nuraber for dayton ohio? i went through the *228 and *228XX nurabers up to 09 but the one that came up for cricket said that the nuraber was no longer active. the rest were verizon nurabers and i had a stray sprint one.

im gonna change the prl to the 1040, but was getting great service with the 1050. maybe that will change something. i read somewhere that you cant ota with the 1050.

i guess the question i should of asked is about my main screen. it says initial programming needed. i should be calling cricket and not verizon correct? since i did flash this thing to cricket.

by the way thanks to all those that helped. it was greatly appreciated.

update. success is mine. put a 1040 prl on it, *228 right to the big k. :clapping:

however one i *228ed it updated the prl. up to 1113. not getting the greatest of service.

if i were to roll back a prl would i have to 228 to get it to work? or would it stay on whatever i loaded?

is there a better prl to use? cuz this one bar service has got to go, i had 3 bars with the 1050.

edit: also anyone got a way to load graphics and tones onto it. bitpim doesnt read the phone being there at all.

and ive noticed that all the settings work fine except for turning the shutter sound off the camera. is there a fix for that? cuz that tone is annoying.

hmm-- there is a tutorial posted by Amoramare that had step by step on it. I trypiucally use 1040 PRL when I flash the U340 and it works every time.

did you go through the programming steps 47*....yada yada

Did you get the ESN repaired after the Cricket bin flash?

If you use 1040 prl and manually program, the PRL stays. When you *228 almost any phone, it will load whatever PRL cricket wants to push to your phone

yeah, im gonna keep messing with it here and there. esn was repaired, and its been switched to my account so all is good.

been messing with bitpim, and got some wallpapers and ringtones on it. its a bit of a pain at first, but now that i know where to put everything its not too bad.

however one problem i did have is that it will only put 10 tones on the phone, and 6 pictures. i think its a memory thing but i cant find where to check how much memory the phone has left at. im gonna look through the fourms to see if i can figure out how to find out

I've tried a few different CPU's that I have and still having trouble reading the Com Port for the Samsung U340. Sometime's it will acknowledge the USB after I have deleted it in the device manager. The device will always show in the Modems or USB Virtual Ports. But, CDMA Workshop & PST Lite will not read the regular port coms on the device manager. I downloaded the driver software from Samsung website...and still no dice. Seems to only do this only on the U340's. Anyone have any other drivers or suggestions that may work?
