Bobby Bowden is arguably the best coach in college football since Bear Bryant. He could had bolted for a bigger program a long time ago, but instead he built FSU from the ground up. Coach Bowden is a man of commitment, integrity, dependability, and accountability. It's a disgrace that the administration, which is filled with state politicians who don't know anything about football, is trying to force him out. Coach Bowden is a living legend who deserves to stay on as head coach for as long as he wants. Heck, FSU won 9 games last year and went to a BCS bowl as recent as 2005. Coach deserves the chance to turn around the program. He should have the chance to coach a farewell season before letting Jimbo Fisher take over in 2011.
He has been at FSU since 1976. In that generation, the Ohio State head coach was still Woody Hayes. The Alabama Crimson Tide head coach was Bear Bryant. The Michigan Wolverines were led by Bo Schembechler. The Nebraska Cornhuskers were led by Tom Osborne. The Oklahoma Sooners had Barry Switzer. And of course the Penn State Nittany Lions had Joe Paterno, just as they do now. The USC Trojans were led by John McKay. Ara Parseghian was still at Notre Dame.
A man with such a history shouldn't be fired or forced to retire. Players come to FSU to play for a living legend like Coach Bowden just like they go to PSU to play for JoePa. If you think change is better, just look at the Rich Rodriguez disaster at Michigan. Sometimes it's better to stay the course. Give Coach Bowden a chance to turn around the program. JoePa managed to do it. Coach still got it.
Ideally, if Coach Bobby Bowden leaves, I would like to see his son Terry Bowden or Tommy Bowden as the next head coach.
