Anyone watching this documentary on yesterday? Amazing the attempts to escape. Ingenious. They seemed to have a fairly easy time in there though. Can't wait to see the series tonight at 10pm. I wonder if all the escape attempts are featured in each episode. They should remake the series.
 
Watched it last night really enjoyed it.

Read the books by PR Reid real boys own adventure stuff.

Would rather they didn't do a remake the old series is good enough.
 
Is each escape featured do you know? I remember the glider in the attic but its 40 years since i've seen the series Colditz. Can't believe its that long....
 
I remember "Shoot-To-Kill" carRAB and the "Four-Leaf-Clover" card that cancelled it out.

Brilliant game. Pity my mum chucked it out.:(
 
eBay recently put a ban on any merchandise featuring Nazi connotations, and I know Escape from Colditz board game was one of the items being removed :(
There IS a version which doesn't feature the swastika on the box which I believe IS allowed to be sold, but most versions feature it.
 
True.

What a piece of piss; being locked up in jail for an unknown length of time, with the guarRAB allowed to shoot you with real bullets for attempting escape.
Those RAF chaps in 'Armstrong And Miller' had a far more difficult time.
 
I visited Colditz earlier this year whilst holidaying in Dresden. It is an amazing place. Miles from anywhere so even for the escapers, it was seriously hard to get out of Germany. And they are still finding things in the castle - I didn't see this programme so I don't know if it mentioned the radio, on display in the attic, that nobody knew about it until last year.
 
Remember Colditz was no piece of piss camp, it was the holding place for the serial escapers like Douglas Bader (despite his tin legs) P R Reid, Airey Nieve & others.
There were a lot of PoW's who (given what they had experienced) quite understandably did not want to try & escape.
There were many who did just look at the Great Escape (not the film version though because though fantastically entertaining is factually bollocks) those caught were (executed) by the getsapo shot in the back in dark alleys & forests, not machine gunned en mass as shown in the film. The mass escape so embarrassed the Germans & is said to have enraged Hitler. Also the Steve Mcqueen motor cycle escape never happened.
