Code Geass live action movie? Yay or nay?

I'm going for no because we all know how Hollywood will never make a good adopatation of anything from books to the world's most popular anime series even though I had an idea of a live-action Gurren Lagann movie.

But if they do that, won't screens explode and eyes melt from the awesomeness taking place? I don't think people would be ready for that.

Almost certain- Japan would be written out, except for a token Japanese character who's just there to lay down kung fu and TELLS us that Britannia is opressing his country. The focus would instead be put on the 'Britannia crushed the American revolution' angle, with all the baddies having laughibly bad accents. Lelouch would also lose his bastard demon moments, instead being a celebrated hero who is sincere in his 'ally of justice' schtick.

The day they make a live action Code Geass is the day I decide to bury myself in a giant hole and never come out from it. Personally I think that anime in general (unless it's really grounded with the ability to at least come off as semi-real) should be kept away from Hollywood.

It would probably get people from hating the Transformers films and loving this fast-paced series. I think the theaters are ready for it since the show is getting intensely popular so I know that some company will be looking at this show and trying to get some cash from it.

What would be the point of a GL film? It would cost ridiculous amounts of money since the action scenes would have to be entirely CG, and that would make it look like a cartoon anyway.

But considering how niche a show like Gurren Lagann is in the big picture of things, and how expensive the movie would be, its safe to assume no hollywood company would touch it with a ten-foot pole.

How can you guys say no?

I want to see Lelouch vi Englandannia team up with George Washington VII (formally known as Suzaku) in taking down the evil, communist kingdom that is oppressing the American people.

John Adam's great-great-granddaughter, who is super hot, will pilot the red mecha.

... also, Lelouch will free the slaves.

I mean... the question isn't should the movie be made.
The question is who should play the part of the traitorous Benjamin Franklin IX, who betrays Lelouch by revealing his true identity to the evil... Queen Elizabeth.

Hmm... Queen Elizabeth as an evil tyrant.

Yeah... it'd suck.

Gurren Lagann is probably one of the worst ideas to adapt into live-action and it probably wouldn't work very well as CGI either.

Code Geass there's no real need for a live-action version. Gundam and Evangelion could both work in live-action, but they'd have to be Dark Knight-quality original takes on the franchises that would make the best possible use of the medium. Especially with EVA, since after 1.0 I'm really sick of the traditional EVA style being repeated.

No, because it probably wouldn't work quite as well, but then again I don't think most anime would benefit from such an adaptation.

Unrealistic expectations aside, making a good live-action movie requires both a suitable concept that would look credible in non-animated form and a significant budget to back it up, both of which are usually lacking or, if present, end up being mishandled.

I'm not even sure Gundam or Evangelion would work without considerable changes, as opposed to something like Cowboy Bebop.

I say yes, absolutely. There is nothing Hollywood(or any other studio in any other country) could possibly do to Code Geass that would make it any more unenjoyable for me to watch, so the sky is the limit! I for one am holding out hope for a Bollywood adaptation, I want to see lulu and green haired chick sing and dance.

...No please.. Hollywood has done enough with anime based movies..

Code Geass is not something I could take seriously in live action form. Honestly I enjoyed the series so much but it would only look good in anime form to begin with, there is just too much detail to even think of a movie.

I dunno, I'd look forward to Geass in live-action; I think a Hollywood adaptation would trim a lot of the unnecessary, well, crap off of the series - which the story really, really neeRAB.

Given the success of Transformers, I say hell no. Law of Hollywood is that movies have to copy whatever's successful, so I'd expect all the Knightmares like masses of parts that form a robot gorilla if you squint really hard.

Necropost, but I couldn't let this one slide.

You do realize that many of the Best Picture winners throughout history have been adaptations, don't you?

This is just my opinion but.............that's not possible!

Oh, I kid! But seriously, nothing done in the live action realm could make me think any worse of CG. Anything and everything is an upgrade from my prospective.

The thing is, I'd think there's a fair chance they'll take away the "good" along with the "bad" and you can't guarantee otherwise.

Adaptations can be hit or miss, but just the fact that there are arguably unnecessary elements in the original source material doesn't mean that Hollywood would be the best place for an editing job done right. Other alternatives, none of which involve live-action, would always be preferrable. I don't really share the "Hollywood will make it better" mentality by default and prefer to be skeptical.

I'd say that goes both for Code Geass and plenty of anime in general, unless there's a reason to be more optimistic.

Not that it matters at this point but I'd really have to disagree...on both counts in fact.

I do respect your having a different opinion though, since the show has its own issues and is always fairly divisive.
