You could try Aloe Vera gel. It's not oily at all and prevents scaring, as the aloe vera plant has natural healing properties.

I've only been using it a few days and noticed improvements. Best to dab your face with warm water then apply, then leave for a few mins then put your face in warm water again.

I have corabination/acne prone skin and I can atest that Coconut oil is great!! It hasn't cured my acne, but it keeps it really hydrated, makes it very smooth and does NOT promote acne at all. Make sure you get good extra virgin coconut oil. I've tried the aloe vera, and found coconut oil works better. Also a little goes a LONG way with it.

As most of you, I've been struggling with acne. I started gettting cystic acne in my late teens/early 20's. My dermatologist put me on Ortho Tri-cyclen and that kept it at bay for quite some time. I came off of it nearly a year ago and since about Deceraber, my acne flared up again. I tried all the OTC washes and creams and nothing. I tried the dermatologist again and he put me on doxycycline and Ziana. I saw no results.

A friend of mine told me about a friend of a friend ya dee ya who used to have really bad acne and she put coconut oil on her face at night and now you would never know she ever had acne. So, with that, I decided, what the heck, I can't look any worse.

I went to the health food store and bought a jar of it and started slathering it on my face at night before bed. I also put a tiny little bit on in the morning.
I've been using it for 3 weeks and 2 days and my skin has definitely cleared up a bit. I have not gotten any major breakouts since. I'm not saying it's a miracle cure, but my complexion has definitely improved. Most of what I'm seeing on my face right now is just the marks and scars from all of my previous breakouts and I have had maybe 3 red painful pimples since I started.

So, if anyone is at their wits end, it might be worth a shot. You are not going to see results over night. It took about 2 weeks before I really noticed any difference. I'm going to keep on using it and hopefully I will continue to see results.

Good luck all!

Are you using pure Aloe Vera or the stuff for sunburns?
I am gonna keep with the coconut oil because it seems to be curbing the breakouts. Then I'll worry about the scars....

You can certainly try it for spot treatments, but it won't hurt to put it on your whole face.

I'm glad other people have gotten similar results to mine! As Leahcim suggested, I started using the pure aloe vera. I put it on in the morning after and I shower and again at night after holding a warm cloth to my face. I rinse it off at night after an hour or so, then put the coconut oil on. The aloe seems to be helping with the scars.

Right now my breakouts are coinciding with hormones - I don't think there's much I can about that except accept it!

Good luck to everyone!

Okay, that sounRAB good! I may try it.

What about for scars? Will it fade those pink/ red spots at all?

Pure Aloe Vera. If coconut oil is working for you then keep using it i guess, but i find aloe vera easier to put on lol

It's very oily. It is paste-like, but you put the jar under warm water and it melts. That's what I put on my face. I put a lot on at night, but in the morning, I just put a tiny bit on because it is very oily.

Just wondering if and with what you wash your face with before you apply the coconut oil.

I've stopped using soaps and washes and all of that jazz. Now I just put a hot cloth to my face for a minute or two and gently rub my skin with the cloth. I also use baking soda 2-3 times a week to exfoliate. Just be careful not to rub hard with the baking soda. It can be irritating.

Nothing else to say but it works. For the scars, red marks, and overall skin quality. Plus it doesn't affect breakout frequency at all.

I had some serious red marks on my face, it looked like I was on drugs and picked my face like crazy. I used it over two days, now it's barely there. WATCH OUT: If you put too much on your forehead it will drip down and give you a stye, lol learning my lesson as I type this :jester:

Coconut oil works!! it's oily at first but my skin absorbs it really quickly, so it's no big deal after 2 minutes. Makes you look younger too!

I use coconut oil as a body oil. It has done wonders for my dry cracked heels! I have a book about the miracles of coconut oil and it does mention that it 'cures' acne.
Hmmm...
Maybe I will try it on the few zits I am getting after being off Accutance for a couple of years now.
Thanks for the post.

It's worth a shot. As I said, it didn't make it any worse, so I kept at it.
I'll keep everyone updated.

How about just for spot treatments? I'm a little apprehensive of putting it all over my face.
