i have an 08 cobalt. just wondering if the alternator would be able to handle 1000 watts rms. I plan on putting in a this amp

thanks for any help

You first have to give the output of the alternator in amperes. Then you need to give how much is the cars usual amperage draw from the radio , accessories, etc. The alternator needs to be able to put out enough amperage to handle the total load from above.

for the answer wattage = voltage (12 volts nominal from the battery and voltage regulator from the alternator) x amperage (amperage from th e alternator or battery).

for the radio you need 1,000 watts/12 volts or almost 100 amps. if your alternator is not strong enough the battery will have to make up the shortage.
