Clutchless Shifting?

I read one of my Sport bike riding books... that you don't need to clutch to shift gears once your at speed/high rpm ? has anyone tried that with there bike ?
second I have 1098 Has anyone tries it on 1098 ? never tried before don't want the bike to buck ...

Shouldn't need to. Downshifting it's needed a bit, but upshifting, you should just need to be pre-weight the shifting lever then back off the throttle and it should snick in. Can't see why the 1098 would be designed differently to every other modern sports bike.
 
Most sportbike transmissions are constant mesh unlike most cars. This allows you to clutchless shift if you want to.

I have a habit where I don't. Just not used to it. I don't do a full clutch pull, but I do pull the level slightly while shifting. Not sure if i'm alone in doing this.
 
Depending on your revs, sometimes you have to give the gears a bit of help. That said, on my 848 I can usually get away with it from about 6K revs up. Most i-4's need a fair bit higher than that.

Low revs to shift up, use the clutch to assist, there might not be enough pressure in the engine to shift it on its own.
 
People bang gears all day long at the track with no clutch and no problems. Enter "bliping", "throttle bliping" or "bliping the throttle" in the search box, it's been discussed.
 
Sometimes the message from my brain to my left hand is too slow and I find the clutch is in AFTER I've shifted..

doesn't matter up or down..

then I've ALWAYS blipped the throttle on the down change.

Here comes the NExT question I guess, I was amazed a few years ago on MS when so many 'experienced' riders didn't know about or how to blip on the down change.
 
blipping the throttle is fun. i have been doing clutchless shifting for quite sometime now and have never had any mechanical problems because of it. in fact when you do it right you start feeling "one" with the bike.
 
I've always blipped the throttle (matched engine speeds) on the downshifts. never usually tried to downshift without the clutch (though I have in a car).

I had tried clutchless shifting with my gsxr,found it not to be as smooth as working the clutch a little like I mentioned before. thought its probably because I don't normally do it that caused the problems.
