Cloverfield 2 - What do you want to see?

I prefer it as a stand alone. Apart form making more money there seems to be a need for audiences to know everything these days.

Personally as a viewer I prefer not to be given all the answers on screen. I don't need to know where the monster came from, it makes it more real if you like. If a creature attacked us right now, we would be amongst chaos, with no understanding of what it is or where it came from.

Doing a back story would spoil it for me, I prefer to use my imagination. It's a shame we don't get more stand alone movies these days.

I thought the shaky camera thing gave it a whole new perspective tae a film like this, it gave us a view point fae the characters on the ground, nae your usual government take on it shite, I will be buying this on DVD for sure, one of the best films I've seen in a long time ;)

Right after the film stormed the box office JJA talked about a sequel using the 'other camerman' on the bridge as an alternative story. There was a lot of pressure form the studio to get a sequel out quickly and the story using this other guy looked pretty obvious. Then JJA came out a few weeks later and clarified the position. Firstly he was too busy with ST to do anything Cloverfield related and secondly doing the sequel from another guys point of view would be just too much like the first, covering the same 'event' in the same way with very little new. He explained that when they talked about a sequel to Cloverfiled they didn't mean in a literal sense. More likely they would follow the same production process i.e. a very fast, inexpensive production using unknown actors and rely on viral marketing to generate the buzz. The actual film would be unlikely to have any links to the first film except for the usual JJA cross-overs with his previous work.

Most of what you're asking was answered by the on-line viral marketing campaign. I'll try to summerise.

The satellite was owned by the Japanse Govt and supposedly crashed mid-Atlantic. Clearly as it was videod from Coney Island this is not true, but is likely a continuity blunder rather than a plot point. the Satellite is supposed to have 'awakened' the monster.

The Oil Tanker was actually transporting an 'organic substance' that was used as the secret ingredient in the Slusho! drink. This substance was 'drilled' from the mid-Atlantic sea bed by a deep-sea platform and shipped across the world to Slusho! factories. The monster fed on this stuff on the sea bed, hence it's large size, and after destroying the drilling platform followed the nearest tanker all the way to NY. The parasites fed off the monster and therefore contained the substance which they transfered to bite victims who then exploded.

Hopefully the monster rampages all down the east coast before slipping back into the sea.
