Having done a bit of checking around it appears a tune playing in the background is "Joker and the Thief" by Wolfmother is playing, this includes the lyrics...

There are plenty of films about subjects which could be deemed sensitive areas. Hell, they're making films about the war in Iraq and that's still going on!

9/11 (Ugh! I hate the way that the disaster has been "marketed") was 7 years ago this year. And the film isn't about terrorism, but a monster movie. We may think about the events of September 11 2001 every time we see a plane crash, or a building collapse in a movie - but if you're saying that film-makers should avoid sensitive areas you are limiting the film industry's creativity.

I loved this film. Although I found it hard to care about any of the characters and their "mission" to save Beth, but as spectacle cinema it was technically outstanding.
 
Saw it tonight and really enjoyed it! You have to not think too hard really and just enjoy it, like how on Earth could the camera survive all that? :D
 
I think the sequel would be based around the satelitte that fell to earth (seen at the end of the film) and the drilling that caused the monster to surface. Dont forget we never saw the monster destroying the oil rig....
 
It is awesome on Blu-ray...worth it for the audio alone.

The Special Investigation Mode bonus feature (exclusive to Blu-ray) is also pretty cool although it's a shame that the extras aren't as exciting as initially thought.

Highly recommended though!

I thought it was good - I really enjoyed it,

but come on!!! How on earth could that girl climb out of a half collapsed building after lying half dead for how long, with some sort of pipe/spear type thing in her chest!!??? They pulled it out of her and she just got up and climbed out, and then ran around the streets of NY looking to escape!
 
Just got back from seeing this - totally ace! Just a couple of things - Beth seemed to recover incredibly well from being impaled by a chair leg (or whatever that was), and also, seeing as the monster was the size of a skyscraper, it shrank a bit when it picked Hudd up and ate him - wouldn't he have been about the size of an ant, proportionally?
Loved it though. Great fun. And such a relief that it's not all guts and gore - I am so bored of that now.
 
Without doubt one of the worst films I have ever seen.

I know we're talking about a monster movie here but nothing anyone did or said made any sense.

For example, Hud asks Marlena what she saw as they approached the bridge, and the other girl said 'not right now..' - What!? The whole city getting trashed around you and it's a bad time to ask what it is?

Other things like walking down tunnel, beat off monsters, walk into med/evacuation centre, very handy. They also have a very understanding soldier who breaks protocol and helps them on their way, right in the middle of the biggest crisis ever.

This thing is vast, maybe 250' high, yet it manages to sneak up on them after they adjust themselves after surviving a helicopter crash!!?

Beth's tower block is trashed, so they go up the stairs in the adjacent block find a lovely little bridge, cross over, and happen right upon Beth's door, which they kick in and save her.

It's almost as if they are relying on the hand-held camera work and this enigmatic, rarely seen monster to carry the film and bugger the actual plot, dialogue and how actual real people would react in the same situation.

Yuk.
 
My problem with this kind of marketing is that the end product, whatever it may be about, will never be as good as what my imagination will come up with in the meantime. I think it'll have to be jaw-droppingly good to meet my expectations, and I don't think it will be.

What will most likely happen is that I'll find out what it's about when it is released and then, with my curiosity satiated, I'll not bother watching it.
