Clive Owen and James Bond

I know the franchise is running into difficulties after Quantum of Sh...I men Solace, so surely its time that the producers looked at the most obvious choice of all for the new Bond:

Clive Owen's yer man. In fact he may be a bit too complex an actor for the rather one dimensional character of JB, but his world weary ruggedness and everyman charm as epitomised in Children Of Men would make him the best candidate for a more realistic and gritty reboot of the 007 franchise.

Some quotes:

"No current English actor can present a patina of debonair charm while maintaining a threat of elemental danger in quite the way Owen can." GQ

"He has a brooding aura-innate grace mixed with potential volatility. Without saying a word, Owen projects internal conflicts, a man of existential turmoil that could erupt in violence, a kiss, or both" NY Times

About time the franchise got a kick up the arse to bring it into the 21st century. Anyone agree?

It's not going to happen. As its very likely they will continue with Daniel Craig in the role. Once he retires (properly after the next 2 movies), the next actor will be around 27 - 33 years of age. So that rules out Clive Owen.He missed the boat...pun intended!

The franchise is not in difficulty - indeed with Danial Craig it's ticket sales were the highest in it's history.

The issue is the continual financial position of MGM. This is the same reason why the proposed Stargate movies have not yet emerged.

Until such a time that MGM's future is secured (or it goes bankrupt in which case it's distribution rights would be sold as an asset) nothing will happen with either Bond or Stargate.

No thanks, keep with Daniel Craig. The issue isn't who is playing Bond, he was one of the most popular to take the role once he was seen in the role.

A million times yes... i am a lifelong 007 faan and really wasnt at all keen on Craig and the Bourne Identity type plots

Clive Owen and a madman with a giant laser would be for me

Agreed. Clive Owen would have been my first choice too. Michael Fassbender would indeed be a good pick. Or Tom Hardy. Or Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond from LOST)

Got sick of the ever so suave super human James Bond who would have worn a bloody tuxedo to bed if he had the chance. Daniel Craig was a complete breathe of fresh air. A total rough diamond of whom M could begin cutting and polishing into the perfect double-oh agent. Saying that though, Clive Owen is of the same mould so I would not be too disheartened if he got the role (used to be a champion of Owen and his part in Children of Men cemented that).
