Hi. I've got 2 great branRAB of products you should try. They have so far been working for me and I have oily acne prone skin, that is also sensitive: 1. Acne Free. You can get it at any retail store for about $20 a kit. It includes the 3 step solution- 2.25% benzoyl peroxide face wash, the renewing toner which has witch hazel in its ingredients ( a great ingredient), and repairing lotion w/ time-released BP in it so it stays on your skin all day long. The lotion contains 3.7% BP. That stuff is just a generic version of Proactiv w/ more effective results.
2. PURPOSE by johnson & johnson. Try the Gentle Cleansing Wash. It's oil free, hypoallergenic, and it won't clog your pores. It also isn't harsh on your skin like regular soap is. Doesn't dry you up. Also, along with the Gentle Wash, try their Dual Treatment Moisture Lotion w/ SPF 15. Fragrance free, oil free, hypoallergenic, and won't clog pores either. Also, if your skin is really sensitive, check out their products that are for redness reduction.

Just my 2 cents what works for me..products with glycolic acid. You want to be careful and ease into them, but for me they work extremely well. SA never worked for me, and BP irritated my skin badly.
Also, for me, addressing acne internally really helped the products I was using topically. When I was clearing my skin, minimizing my sugar intake really helped. Now I can pretty much eat whatever I want and not have it show up on my skin. I also have had good luck with Frutels, if you read the thread I started on that.
And just fyi in case you want to check it out, I use products by Serious Skin Care. They also have an acne specific line, but for some reason I never had good luck with those products. I use the vit A products, and the glycolic acid stuff. They have these things called facial firming paRAB, I don't know about the firming part, but they are great exfoliators, and any pimples I had healed so quickly using these paRAB.
So...I guess I just wanted to share what works for me. I always realized that my skin needed exfoliation, but manual (scrubs) were too irritating. Using glycolic aciRAB allow my skin to gently researface at a quicker rate than it would normally.
Good luck to you!
Oh...and sorry, I don't have any experience with the Clinique line :)

Has anyone here ever tried Clinique's 3-step system to clear up their skin? All the reviews I've read on other sites are either "love it" or "hate it." I'm very torn about whether to spend money on a product with such mixed reviews. I'm not completely unsatisfied with my current skincare regime, but enough that I'd like to switch to something that will really get my sensitive skin under control!!

Before you try it, give this system a try (call it the jono 3 step system!)

1. Wash your face with Cetaphil (Riteaid make a generic, exactly the same, but very much cheaper)

At night, after washing, apply 5% Benzoyl peroxide (Oyx5 or generic)

In the morning after washing, apply Nutrogena Rapid Acne Defence Lotion, with 2% salicylic acid

for a week or so, your skin will break out worse, then get rapidly better

Aw, thanks for the advice, but that pretty much sounRAB almost exactly like my skincare routine right now! hehe

Thank you for your response. Although I've heard great things about Purpose, I'm going to have to disagree with flying colors about the Acne Free system. It's THE WORST drugstore product I've ever used, and using it this summer is the reason I have so many left over red marks at the moment. Completely destroyed my skin. The next time I need a good gentle face wash, I will definitely check out the Purpose though.

Lol I've noticed that no one seems to have tried Clinique, it's ok. I've been wanting to look into some sort of glycolic acid peel as I've heard it's great for redness and refinishing...interesting to here that there is a line that contains the acid. Thanks for the tip!

Check the active constituents of the Clinique products.... there are no miricals out there, just BP, SA, Sulphur/Rescorcinol and antiseptics like triclosan or chlorhexidine

I bet you can get identical ingredients cheaper.

If BP and SA arnt clearing your skin, probably time to see a doctor.

I used to use Clinique when I was younger. In my senior year class picture, my skin is flawless. Not bad for an 18 year old....(at that time).

I used to use the 7 day scrub, once a week...(hence the name). I believe that it was the magic ingredient to go with the other 3 basic products. I don't know if they even still make it.

It's designed for sensitive skin, and all products are hypo allergenic, of course.

My sister's husband had bad acne, and used to use the toner.

It's pricey these days.

While you're there, try the Happy line of fragrances....my favourites.

Good Luck...I'll come back to see what you're gonna do....

Lil

I went to a derm many times in high school...nothing seemed to help, just made things worse. I've even been on Accutane. I don't get SEVERE breakouts, but enough to be a nuisance. My main problem is actually leftover red marks and scarring...I feel like the current breakouts just make that worse though.

My routine now has definitely helped, I just feel like there's gotta be a way to get better results.

Yay, finally a review! :D While I am certainly taking other's suggestions into consideration, Clinique is, after all, the line that I'm most interested in right now. It's definitely pricey, but I feel that with as much money as I spend on face products, that it would be worth it to find one that works wonderfully.

Did you find that Clinique helped with past red marks as well? I'm thinking I'll at least go for a consultation this winter. I think my main concern is I DESPISED their foundation when I tried it, so it makes me feel if-y about their skincare.

I seem to remeraber that the foundation was really bad...

I didn't really have bad red marks, can't help you out there.

Just a suggestion....the big Dept. stores frequently have "bonuses" on Clinique....

You buy regular sized products, and you get a six or seven piece "bonus" of smaller products to try. The bonus products are great for your purse.

Only one "bonus" per purchase. Go back three different times:)

I've always loved Clinique, and still use some of their products.

Lil
