Climate change. Could the real problem be deforestation, not carbon emissions ?

I feel that a lot of the change in climate we are seeing is due to the accelerating rate at which the worlds forests are being cut down. Forests, after all , absorb huge volumes of carbon. If that is the case then the drive toward biofuels is a policy of disaster as great swathes of forest are being destroyed to grow cash crops for biofuels Do the politicians and scientists actually know what they are doing ?
sinwalk2......I said climate change, not global warming

You're right deforestation is a big problem that is really being overlooked (though not totally)

One problem is that the countries that have for example the rain forests will lose money stopping deforestation, money they don't have, thus they want us to pay them to protect the forests.

If deforestation wasn't a contributing factor then why do so many carbon neutral programmes include planting trees to offset carbon emissions.

i think you have a very good point there. but deforestation wont stop till theres no forest left in the not too distant future.
