Cliff on Loose Women right now

Name one?

In my experience people don't dislike Cliff because he's old, they hate him because he's been the living embodiment of bland, safe, cheesy mediocrity for nigh on 50 years.

Likewise I can't say I ever recall hearing someone say "I like him/her because she does drugs".

I know what you mean, my mum is 74 and absolutely loathes him yet whenever he's on TV there's these grannies in the audience practically wetting themselves with excitement that they're so close to the hunka, hunka burning love :D

Where do they find these women?:D

I can't figure out his appeal either.

He's always been thought of as the hight of naffness among my generation (late 20somethings).

My mum's probably not far behind the age group who generally seems to like him but he turns her stomach.

We're the same about Phil Collins, too.

He didn't??!! Oh hell, thank the lord I missed that one.

I don't think my digestive system could have endured any of his gyrating and smugness at lunchtime.

Apparently we're all supposed to think he's great, but there is, and always will be, something toe-curlingly disturbing about the former Harry Webb.

And presumably because he is possibly losing his hair as this thread suggests? (Thus revealing signs of ageing.)

They also 'hate' him because of his religion, ("creepy Christian" is one epithet I've heard) and because he lives with a man but won't scream "I'm gay and proud".

It's his age, all of it.

At the beginning of his career he wasn't considered cheesey in any way. I think he should have retired myself, but I suppose his legion of 'old ladies' keep him going.

PS Does he have gay fans, I wonder? I don't think so. Shirley Bassey, Judy Garland, Barbara Streisand et al but no Cliff. They probably 'hate' him.

This granny isn't! I too find him nauseating now although he was OK(ish) when younger. I do hope Will doesn't keep going so long. Quit while you are ahead!

Did you see the Telegraph interview a couple of weeks ago - or was it last week? The writer really hates him - it was quite funny!:D

I actually admire Cliff for the fact he won't use his sexuality to get publicity. I think in this day and age, when everyone seems to think they've got to "put it all out there" Its kind of refreshing that someone in the public eye is prepared to say "The person I share my bed with is my buisness and my buisness alone." Thats a pretty unique stance and I do admire him for that.

Oh that Cliff. I thought maybe there had been an earthquake and the studio had found itself on a cliff top and this was going to be the final episode, with a dramatic shriek and plummet at the end.

I agree. Why should he come out at his age just to satisfy the mode and mood of the times? it might even be considered a sort of bullying/harassment. After all as I tried to point out earlier these things are often more complicated than they appear.

Ooooh get you!!!!! :D Sorry, was that too many exclamation marks for you?

When one is typing quickly in a 'fun' manner one doesn't always worry about being grammatically correct. I didn't know I was being marked or judged come to that but quite frankly I don't really care.

Now if you really want to enjoy yourself you can go through the whole of the RAB forums where you will find posts galore to correct (both grammatical and spelling errors) to your hearts content, just don't expect to be very popular! :D
