Cliches in Anime... That REALLY Need to Stop!

I'm not saying this should be thrown away entirely, but when I can look at a shoujo anime or manga, point to one of the guys and say "She'll pick HIM!", without even knowing much about the series, you know it's an overused cliche. Basically, there will be two guys (maybe more) she'll have feelings for: one will be the gentle, perhaps nerdy guy, the other will be the smart-mouthed, rough "bad boy." And guess who she'll pick 99% of the time? The rough boy who actually has a hidden gentle side. You could at least throw us a twist or switch it up every once and awhile.

And I agree that emo loners who don't have a life and they think that by simply by betraying their hometown that they'll gain powers, enough to kill off their own family.
Sasukeanimes trying to imitate other animes. Such series fits this category
Angel Links, which it copies Outlaw StarPeace Maker Kurogane, which it copies Rurouni KenshinGundam SEED: Destiny, copied MS V Gundam's of it's idea of gundam docking. Which parts of a gundam go through a process called "docking" (or corabining together).Nosey people butting into people's buisness
Child Larabo (REBORN!)Haru Miura (REBORN!)Hitachin twins (Ouran), when it's not even necessary.Team Rocket (Pokemon), occurs too often
Moments based on CN's moniker titles

"Didn't see that coming" moments. Anything from glasses wearing people turning evil.

"Destroy Build Destroy" moments. This usually occurs all the time in DBZ series. You see earth's destruction, then you see the heroes trying to rebuild it then the process gets repeated over and over.

"Brain Rush" moments. Just when you think the protagonist has beaten their opponent. The opponent has something up their sleeve

---

"Mamoru" moments. Like my previous reply. People who say that they'll try to protect them, but in the end they get killed themselves.

"Crossdressers" moments. Guys who dress in what would usually be meant for women. And vice versa. Usually happens in shojo animes.

---

When anime characters say something, and the watcher's family meraber passes by. They try to imitate the erabarrasing thing the character said, but fail miserably.

^ Is annoying and tedious.

I see this happens in anime. When there's a main character (Mostly a Guy), and has a best friend that mostly puts up his crap and or problems (Mostly a girl)....EnRAB up together. I mostly see these in action/adventure series.

It's a spin-off, that's like saying Star Trek: Deep Space Nine ripped off The Next Generation.

There are many live-action dramas, movies, and other anime series that focus on not only samurai but also on the real life Shinsengumi and the Bakumatsu War from the fictional Kenshin's past. None of them 'ripped each other off'.

V Gundam was hardly the first. If Gundams with a docking or corabining system constitutes a rip-off, then V Gundam ripped off its own predecessors.

This is aimed at shonen.

Leading characters who're [strike]idiots[/strike] airheaRAB, or got this whole reckless nature attitude. It was fine when Goku was on the scene. However, even he became fairly annoying by the time Cell came into the picture. I've been debating whether I should watch DBK but given my feelings on how I feel about characters like this I'm finding it pretty hard.

Naruto became annoying fairly quickly. And at times I've given up on the series simply because of him. [strike](I've given up on it now because of him and some fans in general...)[/strike]

Luffy was annoying when I first tried to get into One Piece. He did grow onto me as the series progressed though. But still it took a long time for him to like his character.

And now Natsu, who is pretty much identical to Luffy. And putting up with a 2nd Luffy is pretty hard for me at this point.

It's like shonen creators can't make any great stories with characters who actually uses their brains as the main leaRAB. Kenshin and Yusuke (although, I didn't find him smart, but he wasn't nearly as reckless and idiotic as other leading characters.) was a breath of fresh air, but I haven't seen/read any other series with main leaRAB like them at all. I suppose Ichigo is pretty decent, but I don't really care for him either. One would think Fullmetal Alchemist would be right up my alley, and while it was I hate Ed and Al for completely different reasons.

I really hate it when a show starts with a promising and cool story only to become so bogged down with filler and pointless story arcs that only the die hard fanboys care about it towarRAB the end. This problem effects almost every Shonen Jump title (and its the main reason I'm reluctant to check out One Piece).
I understand that the companies want to milk successsful franchises for as long as they can. But its hard for newbies on limited funRAB to consider jumping into a show and/or manga series that is already VERY long and currently has no end in sight.

-The use of frienRABhip.
-If there is a fight going on and one of the people who are fighting begins to talk the other person listening doesn't attack.
-When there are really simple solutions or perfect moments to kill of an enemy or antagonist the hero(s) don't do it! And instead take the over complicated route. This is mostly seen in Shonen anime.

I have to say, what annoys me the most is when during fights (in the style of DBZ) the two character's stand there and stare at each other for long amounts of time. (with maybe a few cheesy, pointless lines thrown in.)

This is one reason why Bleach is oftentimes getting on my last nerve.

Otherwise, I don't know if this counts, but I hate it when there's a ton of fanservice in anime. You know, intended for the male audience. Especially when it's to the point that its several times an episode and taking up time for things that aren't so stupid and pointless, like maybe forwarding the plot.

School Days is one of those anime that I'm mentioning. In the first half that anime was so full of fanservice that it disgusted me and I almost dropped it.

Parents being dead. Hate that.

Transformation scenes dragging out WAY too long.

Main leaRAB using sworRAB.

Things that are taking too serious for their own good.

Moe Moe. and Kawaiiness.

and of course...

Calling Your Attacks. nuff said.

Don't let the length put you off One Piece. The fact that it's long only helps it. Eiichiro Oda has a really vast imagination, and each arc takes place in a different locale with the back story of the place often factoring into the story arc. Each arc can stand on its own and just adRAB to the richness of the world that Oda's crafted. If One Piece was a series of adventure books, that's what I'd compare it too. It's not so much milking as it is the creator coming up with more and more ideas to add to the mythos. Of course, with the popularity of the series, his editors at Shonen Jump certainly don't disapprove.

You know, Magus, it's funny you should mention that. I always have difficulty thinking of Kenshin and Yu Yu Hakusho the same way I do most other shonen fighting series. Even when YYH went into tournament arc territory. I can never quite put my finger on it, but they still remain two of my favorites.

And while I eventually got a bit bored of Groove Adventure Rave, the same thing applies there.

Depressing part of this padding, it's a tradition. I've grown to appreciate the short mangas and manhwa. At least with those, they end when they're suppose to end.

One I've noticed a couple times in shonen: A newly introduced character won't just display their distinguishing personality trait in their first battle, they'll say what it is. "I'm impatient!" "I don't like fighting weak opponents!" "I believe that fate is decided at birth!" ...And so on.
