Clear engine check light on Honda Civic Si 2007?

the other day when I started my car (first start of the day) the engine check light came on. I suspect it has something to do with the gas cap cause the previous day I had my inspection done and it wouldn't pass due to the gas cap. I then bought a new one (not from honda) in order to pass the inspection. maybe it wasn't the right gas cap. I went to my Honda dealership and now bought the right cap for my Honda Civic Si 2007. I would like to know if there is a way to clear the light on my own or do I need to bring it to a dealer? disconnect the battery maybe?
any helpful info is appreciated
 
You need to find out the reason for the light being lit; it may be just from the fuel cap, but maybe not. Get the codes read at an auto parts store using the OBD reader
