Classics you just cant warm to..

Casablanca: I just couldn't get into it at all for some reason.

2001: Just dull and ridiculously self-indulgent on Kubrick's part.

Apocalypse Now: Once they get on the boat it just goes off on one. You know how most people find it boring to be told about other people's dreams? This is the same thing for me.

Pulp Fiction overblown
Citizen Kane - rather have the Third Man which for me is superior
Godfather Trilogy - Never got into them at all
Double Indemnity - it's ok but I don't see it as classic
Lord Of The Rings - meh
Star Wars - does not do anything for me, load of old squit with dodgy effects even when it first came out.
any Chaplin film but that is more to do with me I suspect.

American Beauty - Platitudes smugly dressed up as profundity.

The Shawshank Redemption - Syrupy, sentimental claptrap.

Peter Jackson's King Kong - Never been so bored in all my life.

This is England - Nostalgia wankfest. Gosh, how urban and proletarian....

Classics i dont like are...

Blade Runner
2001: A Space Odyssey
King Kong (1933)
Dracula (1931)
The Matrix
The Exorcist
Indiana Jones trilogy
Lord Of The Rings: Part 1 (Havent seeen the other two films)
Animal House
Rocky
Easy Rider

I had The Godfather box set on DVD for ages, but I never got around to watching it. I tried watching the first one but I just couldn't get into it. I sold it in the end.

The main character (Alex) is supposed to be only 15 and the language he uses is meant to reflect that society has become more debased. I think it is a fantastic piece of movie making. The book is very good too and the slang makes a lot more sense.

For me in the classics I don't like list are
Breakfast At Tiffanys
Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid (I know there are some great set pieces and performances but all the modern music bits ruin it for me).
Rear Window (I love James Stewart but again this leaves me cold)

Forrest Gump- Why applaud stupid people?!
Any action film- they are crap and for boys. I hate all of 'em.
Highlander- An ex made me watch this once. It wasn't pants but close.
Pretty Woman. I haven't seen this since childhood when it first came out but I remember thinking "This is crap".
Most chick flicks

Raging Bull and Taxi Driver left me underwhelmed after the high ratings they received.

In fact, so do most highly regarded Scorcese films. The Departed for example I saw as a familiar and unremarkable big star gangster/cop drama. Casino though was great and far better than Goodfella's (though apparently most disagree).

The Sound of Music
Wizard of Oz
Gone With The Wind
It's a Wonderful Life
Most Westerns and historical/war movies (eg Troy) - my dad loves them though
