recently i've been getting into classic films such as cassablanca, gone with the wind and others like rear window and cape fear (the original- and best)...just wondering if yous can recommend any?
 
Night of the Hunter, Nightmare Alley, The Haunting, Kiss Me Deadly, The Third Man, The Seventh Victim, Curse of the Cat People, Touch of Evil.
When you've seen all those, get back to me. :)
 
Ditto! You can try watching some of the early David Lean stuff too; 'In Which We Serve' and 'This Happy Breed' are both great!!!
 
Make sure you watch lots of Cary Grant and Marylin Monroe. My fav is Monkey Business, its really funny. I also love Some like it Hot, The 7 Year Itch, An Affair to Remember, The Awful Truth and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Also James Deans Rebel Without A Cause. Citizen Kane is also a great one. A bit younger but none the less a definate classic is One flew over the Cuckoos Nest. Make sure you check some of these out!!!
 
Marilyn Monroe's best film is probably The Misfits.
If you like crime/noir films check out Double Indemnity, The Postman always rings twice (not the 80's Jack Nicholson version), Night and the city (not the 80's Robert De Niri version), Laura, Mildred Pierce, White Heat, The Roaring Twenties, The Asphalt Jungle, The Killing (Stanley Kubrick's first film), Naked City, Shock Corridor, Brighton Rock, I am a fugitive on a chain gang, The Petrified Fortest (early Humphrey Bogart when he always played villains - great film), The Big Sleep, Farewell my lovely......and many more.

Also, any early Hitchcock film is worth watching, but in particular The Lady Vanishes, the 39 Steps, Sabotage, Foreign Correspondent, Shadow of a doubt, Notorious and the Man who knew too much (1934 original, not 1956 Jimmy Stewart remake). Actually, I think Notorious and Foreign Correspondent just might be my favourite Hitchcock films.

I have seen the last loaRAB of times and just love the music and how the film was done, a true classic.
 
RE: Casablanca.

Does anyone else think that the best part, is not the ending or 'As Time Goes By' but when the German officers are singing The Fatherland and Bogart gets everyone to drown them out with 'La Marseillaise'.
A fantastic moment of patriotism.
 
Why not try 'Dead of Night' an absolute belter of a film. Way ahead of its time.
I'm sure the Yanks will probably murder it in a year or two; like they did 'The Ladykillers'
