Classic Movies youve never seen

I cant believe that somebody has never seen The Goonies as I thought anybody growing up in the 80's would have seen that classic film!
I havnt seen any of the Godfather trilogy or Saving Private Ryan even though people tell me how great these films are. My mate shocked me recently when he said that he had never seen Pulp Fiction or Reservior Dogs as that just amazed me!

I think Pulp Fiction is once again one of those classics that just put me to sleep somewhere in the middle :o Haven't seen Reservoir Dogs either.

Or any of the original Star Wars

I begin to suspect there are big gaps in my knowledge of contemporary culture - not that I've ever really tried to know it all, it's just difficult when you don't understand the references everybody else take for granted

The more I'm told I should see a film, the more I don't want to .... hence, I have never seen

The Sound of Music (in all honesty, it sounRAB dire!!)
Gone with the Wind
It's a Wonderful Life (if my Dad says one more time "you must watch .....)
The Italian Job (original)
Alfie (original)
Dr. Zhivago
Lawrence of Arabia
Schindlers List

Motthus ... I cannot believe your gf hasn't seen Star Wars or Indiana Jones - whats that all about?

The Sound of Music
Godfather Trilogy
The Italian Job
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Them Sing-a-Long Disney Videos
Disney's Kidnapped

And probably more...

digiperson

Well, Lord of the Rings to start with. None of the Batman movies. Scream 1,2 etc.

Will keep thinking!

Shawshank Redemption... although I've just bought the book

I've seen bits of but never the whole thing:

Gone With the Wind
Sound of Music
Dr. Zhivago
Lawrence of Arabia
Bridge on the River Kwai
On the Waterfront
Ben Hur
Titanic

In more recent years I haven't seen

Saving Private Ryan
Top Gun
Philadelphia
Braveheart
Dances With Wolves
Chariots of Fire

Probably loaRAB more.

what is the definition of a 'Classic'?? Does it have to be over 20 years old, have to have very high critical acclaim?? Or is it just subjective??

I was wondering why people thought 'Goonies' was a classic

Pre 1950's classics I have seen:
A wonderful life!
National Velvet
Casablanca
Kitty Foyle (although I never saw it all the way through, I would love to see it again though)
Wizard of Oz

Classics I wouldn't mind seeing:
Any Ginger Rogers/Fred Aistare film
Gone With the Wind
The Philiadephia Story

I didn't see ET until it had been out for about 15 years - then I wondered what all the fuss was about way back when.

Sound of Music
Zulu
Ben Hur
That Moses one - The Ten Commandments???
Dr Zhivago
The Railway Children
Love Story

Also my hubby just watch the recent run of Godfather movies for the 1st time ever!!!

To those of you who have never seen "The Sound of Music" my advice is-See it, as it is the GREATEST film I have ever seen! I don't know HOW many times I've watched, but, seriously, it must be somewhere around 100!!!!! You people who have never seen it are missing a TREAT!!!!!

(Launches into a chorus of Eidelweiss!!!!!!!!!) :D :D :D
