Classic Grange Hill

Recently started viewing the original series of Grange Hill from 1978 and I have to say, its extremely good. The character's of Tucker, Benny and the girls depicted in the programme are spot on the kinds of characters you would find in a school even today.

I'm amazed at how well this still stands up today. Anyone else agree?

Absolutely - takes me back to my own schooldays in the 80's....wish the BBC would continue releasing the DVD's they released 1-4 then stopped, just as my favourite year was about to start - Annette, Zammo, Jonah, Fay, Ro-land etc...oh well I have the videos from the 90's repeats

I agree, I bought the DVD's up to series 4, but the BBC hasn't released any since, wish they would.

There where people moaning about the quality of the picture and the odd drop in quality in picture but it didn't bother me and if thats the reason why the Beeb haven't released more series on DVD, well they should ignore it and release the rest of them!!!!

I've got every series of GH in one form or another

The early series rock ! Gripper and even Imelda Davis and Booger Benson are amazing bullies

The race wars between Gripper and the black is as intense as anything you see today.

A big problem with the dvds is the episodes are edited because of issues with music rights so that sucks.

And they didn't sell that well, that's why the beeb has stopped releasing them.

I watched them when they first showed (I even remember a preview feature about the show on Blue Peter), and then re-watched hem when they aired on BBC 2 on Sunday mornings in the 90's. I agree about it having stood the test of time extremely well. Even some of the ropey acting didn't matter too much.

Where the sales really that bad? BBC produce lots of DVD's and most of them don't get scrapped. They should have given it a longer chance or maybe give/sell thje rights to another company/group to release it on DVD if they don't want to risk a financial hit.

The three things that stand out the most for me grange hill:

imelda being a cow to the scouse lad....think she put asbestos down his back

just say no and all that

Any scene with justine - think she was in it early 90's :D

'84 to '90 were the best years.

Loved watching the likes of Faye, Zammo, Melissa, Banksy, Veronica, Imelda, Cally, Georgina, Robbie, Ziggy!

Just Say No was probably the highlight.
