Classic films you would like to see remade.

I know the word 'remake' usually fills people with dread, but fanboyism aside, if it was done properly, what blockbusters of yesteryear would you like to see updated for today's audience?

I must admit I'm rather looking forward to the new 'An American Werewolf in London' which is due in 2011. :o

Already in production. Chinese built Lancaster's an' all. It's being made mostly in New Zealand. A Peter Jackson & David Frost production, screenplay written by Stephen Fry.

East Kirkby and nearby Coningsby (both homes of currently working Lancasters (RAF flying & Private ground running), have been visited.

RAF Scampton, I believe, will be represented too.

No doubt it'll end with a couple of 617 Tornado's beating up the Scottish or Welsh countryside.

Look for a release in 2010 or, more likely as Jackson is quite busy, 2011.

I can't say my hopes are very high, if anything, I'm bracing myself for a big disappointment. But there is just that tiny spark of hope in me that it'll be a worthy remake, even if it doesn't quite live up to the original. :o

Or is it just wishful thinking and I should go to bed? :D

Silent Running & Dark Star would both benefit from modern story telling techniques.

I'd love to see Pierre Clostermann's "The Big Show" on film. His (true) story and his descriptions of action in the air flying Spitfires and Tempests during WW2 are simply breathtaking in bookform alone.

Get it. The latest version of his book is now fully available, much of it was censored when it was first released.

Maybe the topic should've been "Classic films that should never be remade", or "Films you really shouldn't be looking forward to, but are". :D

I shudder at the thought of the American Werewolf remake. The inevitably inferior CGI transformation scene will kill it.

My picks:
Incredible Shrinking Man - I'd love to see what advanced technology can do for the plot, but they will go overkill,no doubt.

Hellraiser - The original is fun (and very imaginative),but not great.Advice for the studios: give a proven European director/production company the money, don't interfere, and see the ultra gorey art they make.

Never actually made into a film previously, but Harry Turtledove's "World War" series of books would be a great vehicle for some "action hero" types.

Sci-Fi & WW2 - there's got to be something in that, surely.

The Star Wars Prequels.
Take out Jar-Jar and all the other Merchandisey goons (coughgeneralgreivousandtheclonesiwithdifferentcoloursonthemandmostofthejediapartfromplokoon, macewindu, kitfisto, shaaktiandthemlotcough)
Replace Count Dooku with Darth Maul, and use Nute Gunray as the guy who starts the seperatist stuff (for Darth Maul)

Kill off Anakin in episode 1 (coz hes a goon) then bring him back for episode 3.
Kill Padme for being useless.

Etc.

I see no harm giving all the 'stop-motion' classics a CGI going over.

I'd also love to see a new 'Grand Prix' film made. The original's action footage is seriously impressive. I'd also love to see if any of Hollywood's finest would dare to drive a modern F1 car. :D

Oh, and a new Where Eagles Dare might tickle my fancy as well. The only slight problem would be finding a new Burton and Eastwood... Maybe Jason Statham and Vin Diesel? :D

The execs wouldn't be able to control themselves and there would be too much shark. Which was never really the point.

console yourself with the thought that the Prequels in your head, your "personal" version of events, will be infinitely better than George Lucas' steaming turdology

i'm looking forward to Clash of the Titans remake

perhaps not a remake, but another outing for "Snake Plissken" is due

i'd be interested to see what would happen if they remade jaws, i love the original but i think the shark could do with a bit of sprucing up... but it would need to be well done, and keep it close to the original just with a bit of a vamp!
i wasn't around to see it in the cinema and would love to experience it like that...

Great little movie this, but does NOT need a remake. The reason why the film is good because of how it was made. That fist fight too, a five and a half minute-er, give that guy some bubblegum!
