Classic Films That You've Never Seen

Not sure what defines classics but i haven't seen any Star Wars, James Bond, Lord of the Rings, Matrix or Harry Potter films which seems to surprise people. They now assume when talking about a film that i haven't seen it, it's easier that way
 
Do the Harry Potter films really qualify as classics?

Anyway... a lot the classics I haven't seen are the same as Mr Poetic's list:

Birth of a Nation

Gone with the Wind

The Maltese Falcon

The Third Man

Lawrence of Arabia

Dr Strangelove

and to those I'll add

Apocalypse Now

I'm sure there are others. In all honesty, the only ones I really want to see out of that list are Dr Strangelove and The Third Man.
 
Same here. I watched it just waiting to be really moved or affected in some way and it left me cold.

Mind you, I'd heard as much about Brief Encounter and yet found that very watchable and engaging. The fact it was so much of its time, and the attitudes so dated by the time I watched it, some time in the 1990s, made it quite endearing.
 
It's vastly overrated, miserable, depressing and sentimental. (I know I'm in a very small minority saying this! Sorry. Oh no! what have I done!)

Rear Window (Hitchcock...well most Hitchcock films actually!)
Wizard Of Oz (Until very recently)
ET (does this count as a classic...but people cant belive iv never seen it)
One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest
Clockwork Orange (until last week and wish i hadnt bothered)
The Godfather (tho i intend to watch it soon)
Dr Strangelove (again intend to watch soon)

As i said there are tons of classics i havent seen but im still reasonably young and will slowly make my way thru them :)
 
Has anyone actually sat and watched Gone With The Wind all the way through? I have seen it but I didn't manage to watch it all in one sitting!
 
I've never watched the sound of music either - seen bits of it whilst passing through a room but never stayed. Always had something better to do.

I haven't seen Gone with the wind either. No intention of rectifying that.
Haven't seen Citizen Kane or 12 angry men but I'd like to.

Will never watch or read a harry potter movie or book, will never watch any of the Lord of the Rings films.

Haven't seen all The Deer Hunter. Can't remember watching many classic war films either or westerns. To be honest, I don't really know what I've been doing in my time on the planet. Maybe a film education class at school would have been more productive and rewarding than a general studies mishmash.
