Classic Chart Show Showing On The Vault 356

This morning was 2 May 1998 so maybe the odd new repeat is being added as we had 2 episodes from March 1997 a fortnight ago. I think today's episode was shown on the Vault in the 2006-07 repeat run though.
It looked like they had changed the order slightly aswell as they was a couple of Videos before the Top Ten and I'm sure they only used to have 1 New Video before the Top Ten in a full 3 part show.

I still watch the old Chart Shows on Vault but I'm beginning to feel that unless Vault do invest in promoting the show and can move outside of the few years they stick to then the programme will just lose more viewers.

It's a catch 22 situation - the fewer viewers they get the less they will try to get the necessary equipment to show other years...

oh no, it's such a shame they've taken it off already. I used to love the Chart Show, but only saw this thread two weeks ago and tuned in each time, but of course they stopped showing them! So I never even got to see one episode repeated on there. Such a shame.

Depends what you mean by "they". CSC repeat(ed) The Chart Show because they know it was the only decent thing they ever made. Subsequently, they can't even broadcast it properly, and for that reason, not alot of people watch it... plus hardly anybody knows it's on.

The BBC are stubborn over TOTP because, well, it's the BBC. They refused to sell it to Simon Cowell even though Simon would've given it a nice home, but the BBC want to keep it even though they aren't "using" it. Everyone knows it became crap because they stuck it on Sunday evenings on BBC2 - for the target audience of TOTP, the only thing they'd watch on a Sunday evening on BBC2 is Top Gear. It was fine the way it was on a Friday evening (I don't remember much from the original Thursday days), they just need to learn from their mistakes.

Personally, I gave up on TOTP because the music was so terrible, and it's not everyday you hear a 17-year-old complaining about modern music. ;)

No surprises there !!!!:D

They should bring back the "real" chart show that was shown on Channel 4 between 1986 and 1988 and then on ITV between 1989 and 1998 !!!!

If this was the first time they've made a mistake, then I would have more sympathy, but they've made these cock-ups so many times. If they can't handle a simple situation in broadcasting a new episode on TV, then what hell of a chance can they do in broadcasting new classic chart show repeats !!!

Just got the copy of the 7/12/1991 edition, here's what the song info box looks like:

The icons all animate briefly when clicked- the record pops in & out the sleeve, the TV shows static, the speech bubble flashes up "Pssst" and the question mark turns upside down. The bus isn't clicked on in this episode- so the animation was never used.

I have to ask though, why they went to the effort of changing this, only to go back to the old style the following week- a waste of time, surely? The 1989 style looked quite dated even by then, yet they used it through till 1996.

Well I was expecting a repeat of Friday's episode. Are they going to put a new episode everyday ?? It seems they're going to stick with 1997 And yes James, it is from 25th October 1997 !!!!

Checking tomorrow's listings for The Vault on SkyGuide it appears that The Chart Show has been replaced by Vault Classics on both Saturday and Sunday.

However its still being advertised on The Vault website.

Yes, they did. In the end credits, you see the name "Dave Howling", he was the bloke responsible for ringing round record shops and getting their sales data.

And I'm still hoping for 1986-90 and 93-95 eps. As I've already said, I've seen the bumpers that appear during the ad breaks that say 1986, 89 and 90- surely something must be hapenning?
