Classic Chart Show Showing On The Vault 356

I'm not that impressed by the new version. The Play and FF are used in most videos whereas they tended to just use them in the chart before, the graphics look a bit basic and there doesn't seem to be the obscure videos in there either.

I'm just watching through my copy of the episode now (I had to get my dad to record it, as the people who were meant to be fixing my dish have potsponed until Monday ) and I've actually got the date 4/1/1992 for this edition. If you're also using the Guinness book of hit singles, I can see how you might have got that date, as the system they use for dates is quite confusing. They use the date for the Saturday after the publication of the chart- 12 days after the single was released (and 7 days after the Chart Show edition was aired).

Edit: Just got to the ad break and seing they're confusing everyone by using the 1996-97 "Pause" symbol (presumably to hide the show's sponsorship) rather than the proper one for the era!

POSSIBLY AMAZING NEWS

Chart Show TV are starting a new version of The Chart Show from Wednesday at 9am and 4pm.

Whilst part of me is overjoyed, i'm worried by the possible cheapness of it and lack of traditional features...

There were a load of weak dance-pop tunes around that year, and quite a few of them were in today's show - Rage, Undercover, The Shamen (although I quite liked Boss Drum)...

It also showed just how wrong The Chart Show sometimes was in predicting the big future hits, as the Lionel Richie song was billed as 'tipped for the Christmas No1 spot' yet a glimpse in my British Hit Singles book revealed that it crawled its way to No52. :D

but it has a two hour show on the channel when the top 20 is on.

I doubt it has any chance of being brought back on ITV so take what is already here

Today's episode is from June 1st 1991 (thank god for the Guinness book of British Hit Singles), so it's fair to say there will be no order to the episodes we'll see.

Their exclusives & Hotshots often flopped. Watch any edition and you'll usually find at least one song which didn't even make top 40. Still it was a chance to see & hear the music that most radio stations and MTV (in the days it was a decent channel and PLAYED MUSIC) wouldn't touch.

I have compiled The Top Tens for this year based on the early 90's style when they were way off the official chart.

This great news! So will there be a 'new' episode each week then, with the first showing on the Saturday & so on etc? So this 1997 episode will be shown each day from tomorrow (29th May) until next Friday (4th June) & then a different episode will be shown next Saturday 5th June? If that is correct then that's great stuff, as if each episode gets 7 showings, then the ratings could be good enough to keep them going-on for a while. Here's hoping anyway!...

Talking of The Chart Show etc, whatever happened to the 'new' version they started doing on ChartShowTV? It disappeared in early 2009 & has never come back AFAIK. Is wasn't as good as the original ITV series, but wasn't a bad way to spend an hour & a good way to see some new videos without having to trawl the way through all the music channels etc...
