Classic Cartoons that Should Still Air!

I'm surprised that the only classic cartoons that still air are Hanna-Barbera, DCAU, the occasional Looney Tunes, some Disney stuff, and a couple of the original NickToons.

There's over dozens of classic cartoons that should still air and I'm sure would do well in the ratings.

Example:
Alvin and the Chipmunks (especially after the success of the movie)
Rocky and Bullwinkle
School House Rock
Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids
Inspector Gadget
He-Man
Thundercats
G.I. Joe
Transformers (especially after the success of the movie)
ORIGINAL Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Beetlejuice (it was successful on two different networks at the same time and was also an early hit for Nick)
Bobby's World
The two Sonic cartoons from the early to mid `90s

The list goes on...
 
I wish Freakazoid would air somewhere again. It was one of the only Steven Speilburg cartoons I actually laughed out loud with. At least the later episodes, when they started to have full episodes rather than 6-minute shorts like Pinky and the Brain, Animaniacs, and Tiny Toons did.

Sure, I enjoyed the latter, but Freakazoid really touched me on a comedy level.

But, for goodness sake, I'll post;


Looney Tunes: Come on Warner Bros., they're online, have merchandise every where in stores, books, etc. Baby Looney Tunes on CN and Boomerang won't cut it. Forget the DVDs (maybe not), but at least put them on somewhere, even at 3:00 in the morning on Adult Swim.

The Flintstones (Not just Boomerang): They have they're own vitamins, Fruity Pebbles (a popular brand), and they're online also. But why they're not on Cartoon Network? It's for the whole family. Or at least make Boomerang more available.

Terrytoons: CBS should have least make a syndicated block featuring the good ol' Terrytoons on the air. A Mighty Mouse movie in the works? Is there any reason why not to air them?
 
Animaniacs didn't make you laugh out loud. :( And speaking of Animaniacs that's another one that should still air. I'm glad Pinky and the Brain is on Toon Disney, but Animaniacs was better.



Not to my knowledge. Then again...how many channels actually air cartoons these days. Its not like back in the day when you had the three of the four networks, TNT, TBS, USA, and the cartoon cable channels.
 
I really think that Looney Tunes need to be on CN. I mean they still have merchandise, kids would probably like to see them. Also classic Disney shorts on Disney and/or Toon Disney for the same reasons.
 
I remember as a kid Disney Channel would air the classic shorts all the time. Now, its never on or maybe it is but I haven't seen it in like 4 or 5 years.
 
Inspector Gadget and He Man suck; remember that lousy He Man film that starred Dolph Ludgren? And Alvin & The Chipmonks STEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENK!! Ad nauseum.
 
Plus the movies have obviously performed well enough to warrent repeated viewings.



Plus it has historical merits of being the longest running American animated sitcom before Simpsons came into play. And being that it was meant for the adult audience, it would be a suitable program to put inbetween Adult Swim and Cartoon Network.

As for what hasn't been listed here:

- Alvin & The Chipmunks:

1. I may be mistaken, if so feel free to correct me. The movie based off the cartoon has seemingly faired better than most cartoon to live action adaptations (such as Underdog).

2. Pretty high episode count.

3. Can't really get many DVD releases due to the copyrighted songs, thus justifies some airtime.

4. Should appeal to music lovers since the episodes have the characters doing a song.

- Tom & Jerry Kids: Again, this is the show which aired on Fox Kids in the 90s. I suggest it because:

1. Tom & Jerry is still doing well enough to merit the old shorts constant airing as well as the current revival of the frachise.

2. It would complement other shows on the network such as Baby Looney Tunes and A Pup Named Scooby Doo.


On that note, if Flintstones was to brought back, I'd also add The Flintstone Kids to air as a companion program for A Pup Named Scooby Doo.

Yea, but its still a classic. I'm sure some would like to re-watch or discover what all the hype was about.

I grew up watching the `80s Alvin cartoons. It was good stuff.
