Classic Bonds Coming Soon to Blu-ray

i ave a feeling the marketing machine is gearing up already.

"You haven't seen Bond until you've seen it on Blue Ray"

this will be done with loaRAB of other films too.

I'm still buying the ultimate edition bonRAB at the moment they are doing me fine

The jump between VHS and DVD is a lot larger than DVD to Blu-ray, especially when you consider the DVRAB are in the proper widescreen ratio and with high quality surround sound. The Blu-ray versions won't be worth it to that many people.

Why do you think that? The recent releases where they went back and re-scanned the original films and re-graded all the shots was probably done at HD in order to release them down the line on HD-DVD or Blu-ray.

The cost involved in completely remastering five odd feature films, the masters of which are nearly a minimum of 30 years old (save Die Another Day), measured against the likely low sales of the discs given the low consumer demand for blu-ray. . I imagine the discs will be upscaled HD.

Well they went back to the original masters or as close as they could get for the recent set of DVD releases, including cleaning up the film and eliminating blemishes - they very probably re-scanned them on an HD TK machine knowing they'd release them in HD in the future. (And for their archive purposes as the original masters were deteriorating). (The cost of scanning it at HD compared to SD wouldn't be very much higher).

It's strange that if all the Bond films were remastered in HD for the SD Ultimate Edition releases, that five films are being released out of sequence.

It seems like a testing of the waters type of release so that money isn't wasted on making HD transfers of the whole series if they don't sell.

If they were all ready for HD release, why release five odd films out of sequence? Why not just release the whole series in a blu-ray boxset or the series in order?

I don't think there's enough confidence in the format yet to spend money on something as big as a complete 21 film blu-ray boxset.

According to the press release the 5 they're releasing is representative of the Bond era through the years!

(Reading a few threaRAB about it over on the hometheaterforum it also appears that the earliers ones are the only ones that have been re-scanned at 4k resolution for HD and release as the DVD Ultimate Edition).

Goldeneye was an atrocious copy when put out as a UE DVD - and was originally in the release schedule, but was pulled - presumably so that can get it remastered correctly before HD release.

For info, it appears that only the first 8 bond films were re-scanned at 4k and cleaned up properly, the rest had half a job done - so perhaps MGM are going to get it done right on the rest of the films!

How many more times are we going to read nonsensical statements like the above from people who clearly have no understanding of the subject for which they try and claim they do.

Virtually all cinema films are made on 35mm (and larger) film with quality that exceeRAB that of current HD standarRAB.

Perhaps if you even had a player for HD movies you might be able to watch Forbidden Planet,Spartacus ,Star Trek TOS,20 Million Miles to Earth and other 40-50 year old product that is available in HD

More from the clueless.

All the Bond films were remastered into HD by Lowry who returned to the original negatives and restored them to their original quality and the UE dvd's used the HD masters for their release.

HD masters can be created for anything that was made on 35mm film- that how we have HD disc releases of films like Casablanca.

The HD masters for the 007 films are already there

As for upscaled SD - perhaps you can give us the title of any Bluray or HDDVD that is upscaled SD.

There is no point in releasing upscaled SD as the HD players will already do the job themselves with dvd's
