Classic Black and White Films???

Harvey
Gilda
Marty
Pickup On South Street
12 Angry Men
The Grapes Of Wrath
Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
The Shop Around The Corner
The Philadelphia Story
Casablanca

Night of the Demon - still spooky now after 50 years
Dead of Night - This movie is VERY scary, even though it was made in 1945, watch it and be really spooked

A Few Sci fi/Creature features would not go amiss surely!

Frankenstein
Bride of Frankenstein
The Black Cat
The Day the Earth Stood Still
King Kong
..... to name just a few, they may be genre films, but they're bloody good...

Also some of David Leans earlier efforts... Oliver Twist, Hobson's Choice.... etc

Frankenstein I love for it's references to World War 1 battlefielRAB in the design and it's strong sense of design, Bride of also gets a nod because of Elsa Lanchester who married Charles Laughton (Hobsons Choice) !!
She was British, her parents were going to be sent into institutions by their parents for having a relationship with one another so they ran away and got married at Gretna Green. Her brother was a famous puppeteer.

Night of the Living Dead
Psycho
La haine
Elephant man
They Drive By Night
The Cabinet of Dr Caligari
Nosferatu
And 12 Angry Men

Some that I would show in a season of B/W films, Also any Laural and Hardy, Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin :D

Some Like It Hot
Psycho
From Here to Eternity
The Manchurian Candidate
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
All About Eve
Sunset Boulevard
The Grapes of Wrath
Only Angels Have Wings

Oh yes forgotten about this one...

Another from the same period (70's) would be Paper Moon which is also a fantastic B&W movie with wonderful photography.

La Belle et La Bette is another great suggestion, I loved the hanRAB holding the lights guiding them down the corridor and the scene with the sheets is another.
