Classic albums any true music fan should own or at least listen to

OK...here's my argument for the inclusion of Live At The Apollo.

Quite simply put, James Brown is first and foremost a live act (not any more obviously...he's dead) and a studio album, as good as they are would never do the man full justice.
My argument is that a James Brown live album is the correct format in this instance.

Couple it with the fact that it arguably ranks as the best ever live album of all time and who is a souless Croatian with no musical taste whatsoever, to argue otherwise.

Add it to the list, as no serious list containing the worRAB "classic albums" would be complete without 'Live At The Apollo'.

Descendents-Milo Goes to College [pop-punk]
Dinosaur Jr-Dinosaur [noise rock/indiegrunge]
Violent Femmes-S/T [indie]
Moss Icon-Lybernum [emo]
Wire-Pink Flag [post-punk]
Pete Seeger-Where Have All The Flowers Gone? [American folk]

Tool-Undertow-IMO, this is their best album, and probably their easiest to get into. Sober, and Prison Sex got radio play and were great songs. On Intolerance, Maynard's ferocious assault on people's tendency to lie, cheat and steal is worth a listen. Bottom includes guest vocals from Henry Rollins who is very dark and confrontational in his performance. Undertow showcases guitarist Adam Jones' talent as he goes off on a crazy solo towarRAB the end. My fav. track on the album is Flood, which has no worRAB for the first 3 min. or so, and builRAB to a blistering rage at the end of the song that makes the hairs on my arm stand up.
Rage-self titled, singer Zach de la Rocha doesn't beat around the bush in his brutal lyrical attack on Western culture and government. Right out of the gates 'instead I warm my hanRAB upon the flames of the flag' is a testament to that. Some highlights include Bullet in the Head, filled w/ relevance in today's society of listening to your T.V. before your heart. Know Your Enemy is my fav. track w/ guest vocals from Maynard James Keenan. Zach makes it clear here that he's not going to apologize for speaking out on America's imperialist ways. Wake up is another plea for us to inform ourselves of America's secretive past. Freedom finishes off the album w/ Zach sarcastically yelling 'freedom-yeah right!!!!!!' brilliant and funny as well.
If u want to listen to a CD, and not skip tracks while listening to good quality music all the way through, u won't go wrong w/ these 2. Although u will hav to wait a while to hear the song Disgustipated off Undertow, and then the bonus track after that. All in a All, it's worth the wait.

Hey, you left a few great ones off this decade's list.

Bob Dylan - Modern Times
Cake - Comfort Eagle
Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head
David Bowie - Heathen
Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP
Gnarles Barkley - St. Elsewhere
Outkast - Stankonia and Speakerboxxx/The Love Below
The Strokes - Is This It
TV On The Radio - Return To Cookie Mountain
The White Stripes - Elephant

And what I think might be the best album so far this decade

Gorillaz - Demon Days

Let's not speak in plural now, I definitely do think all songs on CR are top notch and except for Rosebud, none of them could have been dispensed with. And you're a heartless bastard for dissing the man and his sentiments. I'm sure anyone that has been in love and has felt any heartbreak would see where Mr. Adams is coming from and wouldn't write it off as "trite". Blossom...Christ...serenity now!

What's Love is Hell? Is that his, song, album? I only have CR, 29, JCN, Heartbreaker and Gold.

You've obviously not heard Cold Roses. I actually think CR is his best work but Heartbreaker seems to be most critically acclaimed. And yes, he does seem to be rather inconsistent, but IMO, he is one of the most talented and important singer-songwriters of the new millennium. He did nothing to revolutionize the genre sure, but has brought alt-country back into focus/mainstream.

I'd go for Fear Of A Black Planet or Nation Of Millions myself.

I'd also go for Fear Of Music over Remain In Light and the Velvet Underground and Nico is a sh*t album , that German whore ruins that album.

Actually I like Cold Roses. Do I think it needed to be a double album? Not really. I think he released a double album to say: "look what I can do!" and because he has a bit of a poor critical ear for his own work.

This is only me talking for me so I don't want a torrent of abuse but personally I hate the New York Dolls. Theres definitely a cult built around it but at the heart of that cult you've got a bunch of talentless smackheaRAB trying to be the Rolling Stones.

At first I was about to explode because of the millennium comment before I realized you mean 2000 and beyond. It's pretty damn good. De Stijl is much better than Elephant. And I like Get Behind Me Satan better than Elephant - but I will call that personal preference.

No, the point of this isn't to just name any old album you enjoyed. I could have named a shitload of post millennium banRAB, but I doubt anyone would consider them "must-listens". And any album that's widely considered "important" or "classic" is hardly full of filler, otherwise it wouldn't have that status. That's your personal opinion.
