Classic albums any true music fan should own or at least listen to

Since Superfly has already been mentioned twice (By both Urban and I) I think it should probably be on the list. There are only a few soul albums that are as cohesive and original as Mayfield's classic.

Howlin' Wolf - Moanin' in the Moonlight (blues)
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme (jazz)
Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica (beefheart)
Frank Zappa & The Mothers - Freak Out (zappa)
Velvet Underground - Velvet Underground & Nico (proto-punk)
Can - Tago Mago (krautrock)
The Clash - London Calling (punk rock)
Funkadelic - One Nation Under a Groove (funk)
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation (indie rock)
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless (shoegaze)
Slint - Spiderland (indie rock)
Pavement - Slanted & Enchanted (indie rock)

I think that's in somewhat chronological order. I can't be bothered to go through and find the years for all of those, you can discover that well enough on your own. Basically, those are just a few albums that are either defining albums of the genre (like Loveless) or that you just hear namedropped every other record review basically every modern band is basically just ripping them off (Pavement.) That, or they're just absolutely brilliant.

(and yes, Beefheart and Zappa get their own genres, because they're just that good)

i fully agree with that. the buzz****s gave punk a popular sensibility and contributed heavily to making it more commercially viable. Very important band and Love Bites is a seminal release.

The strokes- room on fire
Babysharables- down in albion
Muse- rigin of symetry

There all pretty good, i borrowed them from my brother and thought they were awesome. All you indie/ Mod lovers, check em out

Also, I think I asked this before, it would be wonderful if, eventually, we could upload all these albums, but I want the download links to be available for a long time so all the future rabroadians can enjoy in its benefits. Are there any file sharing sites that will hold the files forever?

Edit: Triple post!!:yeah:

Urban can you PM me too, I've heard that mentioned like 40000 times (I'm hardly lieing) on this site and I still haven't checked it out.

Edit: Cheers man.

You guys probably saw me coming with a siren and flashing lights because my classic album is Houdini by the Melvins. This album won't be love at first hearing, but it is amazing. So many variations of sound and style, if you can get into their overall sound it's an extremely addictive and rewarding album.
