Classic albums any true music fan should own or at least listen to

Heres what I do, don't worry about the wiki links i'll handle all that, but YOU have to add the albums.

k?
k.

Also i'll sort them by date and that jazz.

Why is it better to clearly sound like your influences than it is to start moving away from them? I prefer Crooked Rain myself because of the playful experimentation involved and although CR, CR has their most sucessful song ("Cut Your Hair") Slanted and Enchanted is the disc always touted by critics and mentioned when indie rock is the subject or a top albums list is being created. And I think since their commercial success was so limited, we might easily consider S & E their most successful album because of the mountains of acclaim it has recieved.

That's because this isn't a popularity contest. I'm sure we've missed a few albums but there's plenty of time to correct the list. Plus, the 2000's looks very bleak.

Btw, to everyone, feel free to upload any albums you see on the list that you have on your computer.

Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back (1987, Def Jam)
A must hear just for The Borab Squad's dense, noisy production style.:)

Well isn't that what he was asking for? I thought the post was to post the classic albums everyone was talking about. I almost asked why he didnt just look for a list online to begin with. I guess I misunderstood what addissassasasas wanted.

An absolutely astounding album. So delightfully bizarre and memorizing. The Andy Warhol factor just makes it that much more intriguing. One of my top 10 favorite albums for sure and must for any fan of 1960's and 1970's Rock and Roll.

And I don't think in twenty, anyone will know Ryan Adams as anything more than the guy with a case of musical diarrhea. Granted he's got some decent recorRAB...but does he need to record and release everything he writes? I'll take quality over quantity any day.

I'm not railing against Heartbreaker specifically, because I haven't heard that album (for all I know it could be great). I'm just saying I find him to be generally rather non-essential.

Wow, if I thought 70's was to old for me, 50's certainly is. I don't even know what that sounRAB like. Pink Floyd is good, but that about the only group I've listened to from the era.

The Heartless BastarRAB - Stairs & Escalators (2005, Fat Possum)
Great great debut record by this band from Ohio that slipped under the radar. Future classic status is guaranteed.

Alexander Spence - Oar
The only album by this largely forgotten folkie. Played every instrument on the album himself. Influenced lo-fi folk music banRAB like Smog and Sebadoh.
