Saw this article on RCR wireless. I thought that this was really crazy. Especially with all these class action lawsuits that have been going on.
What do you think about all this. . .

Class action nails T-Mobile USA over texting services Unwanted messages spur dust-up By * Jeffrey Silva Story posted: January 30, 2008 - 2:06 pm EDT T-Mobile USA Inc. has been hit with a class action suit over alleged charges for text messages received by consumers who do not want the feature. The suit, recently filed in the U.S. District Court in Seattle, claims T-Mobile USA charges for text messages regardless of whether customers want the missives.

Well they can. Its a little complicated. I've heard a few reasons why its not done though. And only certain people in tech support can do it. ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~yeah that's one of the reasons I heard we have to be able to communicate with our customers. And I heard that if there is a state of an emergency that the local or federal government would communicate via text.

Tmo's going to pay what they owe. That's a pretty solid case. If T-mobile is smart, they'll settle for an undisclosed amount and not let this drag out.

Txt Msg are an important factor in the wireless industry, from teens to adults, from regular joe's to ceo's... as much as a distraction as they can be, they are also very helpful. We are able to communicate within our peers, but can also send important and valuable information, i.e, emergency's. In Boston,MA some colleges send out school txt msgs to the students to inform them of emergencies, in order to prevent another VT attack...

I agree that if someone doesn't want to receive any txt messages then yes, the company should disable it. Now if they can not, and the person receives txt they should totally have that removed off the bill. Of course to make sure the person isn't B.S'n them. Like they have 200 to 300 txts and then they say "i didn't want it refund me". Now for a class action lawsuit and get an incredible sum of money for receiving those txts is just B.S. Tmobile should just appologize (sincerely) and refund the txts, and block them and make them aware of any issue that or warning they will miss because of this (whether its simple or complicated process) people are always too earger to sue, it's rediculous.... aannnndddd venting is done sorry everybody...lol

I'm not sure if you're familiar with class action lawsuits in these kind of cases, but it's basically a joining of large amounts of people with the same grievances into one trial/case, even those who the ruling would apply to who may not even have known they had a case or sued. The large sum of money is basically split up among the mannnnyyyyyy parties and in the end no one really profits off of this. It's like Visa recently had to pay out the likes of 300mil or something like that due to wrongful charges to those who had traveled out of country and used their card (you know the % charged for change of currency on charges). I ended up getting a check for $25 for my brief trip to Canada where I used my rewards card. The amount of money they had to pay out may sound larger than life, but when all is said and done, they will basically only lose out what they shouldn't have had in the first place.

I have both T-Mo and AT$T (don't ask as it is a long story), but AT$T has the option to enable only system messages, which means that anything that originates from the carrier (bill notices, updates, etc) are free and all else is blocked. I asked T-Mo about this and was given the log into your account and block individual user's texts (yeah like my list isn't going to grow). Maybe this will spur T-Mo to make the change like the rest of the carriers have??

very interesting. i read this thread yesterday and since then i have gotten two of those random text messages. both were about britney spears. and if i text them back i can recieve more... wonder if these will increase or decrease over time?
