In genealogical researching one often sees records of Civil War pension payments to veterans, widows, or children of vets. I would like to know the manner in which the payments were conveyed. Our banking system was far different in the late 1880s and early 1900s. I would appreciate anybody with knowledge about the process by which payments were made enlightening me. In addition, where there differences between the way Union vets and Confederate vets were paid? Thank you
