Cingular E62 Java Problem Fixed

This wasn't put together by me, but by a different user. It's also posted in the Cingular Smartphone forums, but I feel it's appropriate here, as well. It's a solution that I always presumed would work, and thought I had suggested, but perhaps I didn't.

In any case, basically you're using NSS and NSU to change the product code on your E62 from Cingular's to Roger's, thereby putting a different branding on your phone, and removing the java restrictions. I'd say it's the next best thing to unbranded.

This steps detailed above ^ no longer appear to work. The Nokia Software Updater (NSU) no longer provides the option to download/reload the firmware again. Others have stated that they attempted to use older versions of the NSU and were forced to update the Updater.

WhenI changed the product code, the NSU at the time re-wrote the firmware which would have included the Cingular preferred root certificate. I would then have been able to download some software that I cannot now load. The NSU has been updated and no longer re-writes the firmware if the firmware is up to date. Therefore, I cannot have the phone revert to its original Cingular state so that I can run Telenav. Instead, I get the constant "Certificate Error. Contact the application supplier" message. Cingular has not been able to help and Telenav is researching the issue.

It seems that the solution is to somehow re-write the Cingular Firmware which will include the Cingular Preferred Root Certificate or to download the certificate and install it on the E 62. I have no idea how to even find the Cingular Preferred Certificate and then install it.

Any thoughts?

Nope. Sorry. I would suggest, however, checking out other GPS options. For the price you'd pay for Telenav over a year ($10*12 months is $120) you could get TomTom for $100, Route66 (no idea on pricing), Wayfinder for $99 a year, or numerous free GPS options, compared at the link in my sig.

there's also Smart2Go, Nokia's application, though I think i read somewhere that it doesn't yet run on the E62. You can check it out at www.smart2go.com.

Ok so since the NSU no longer works and it isn't possible to flash with the rogers firmware, can I just change the product code back to Cingular if I never flashed the firmware? Does it even matter at this point. I don't want my phone to be unable to get ANY firmware updates (that is if Cingular actually decides to put one out). If I was to do this what is the product code that I have to put back in through NSS
