Cingular Blue vs Orange SIM

I've been a very very loyal AT&T customer for years and have resisted switching over to the other side. It's becoming a bit frustrating since they provide almost NO customer service for us oldies and have very limited plans. But my voice plan is incredible and will be hard to give up.

But now that I have my E70-2 and am considering the N75 if/when Cingular decides to release it, is it worth switching over? I'm no so much concerned about the plans and such. My big question is if my connection will be any faster. Do I get EDGE speeds with my Blue SIM? It doesn't seem like it to me but can anyone confirm? Also, I'm not really sure about the whole 3G SIM thing either.

Can one of you explain this to me? Thanks!!!
 
The N75 is definitely worth the switch. if you're in a 3G market you'll be accessing Cingular's umts/hsdpa network. The N75 was supposed to launch this month but has been pushed back to January due to problems reconciling with Cingular's 3g services.

you are able to access edge with a blue sim, but you aren't allowed any 3g services. You will also receive better coverage using a 3g orange card. your blue card is 32k and a 3g orange card is 64k. You also are limited to at&t's last roaming agreements, which don't cover some of cingular's newest towers and roaming agreements.

There was a discussion somewhere in the Cingular forum about the SIM swaping that they are doing. The consensus that they have there is that you get better reception with the blue SIM. The new 64k orange SIMs had some networks removed from it's roaming list (when compared to an old blue SIM).

Whether this will affect you depends on where you live of course. I don't plan on ever forking out the money for the 3g connection. I'm quite happy with EDGE and WIFI.

I would, of course, prefer to stay with my Blue plan, but if the reception, connection speed, etc can be had on the 3G SIM, I might switch over. I've posted on the Cingular forum with this question and it's somewhat being answered. Some info is conflicting.

If there was actually a knowledgeable and honest Cingular tech who could answer these questions. lol.
