Cineworld's Programming Policy - Rec 2

For the last few weeks my local Cineworld had the 'Rec 2' Poster up in the foyer which stated 'coming in May'.

The film comes out this Friday therefore l looked at the listings and found out to my dismay, it's not showing for the week in question! Therefore why advertise the film with a 'date' if they're not going to show it in that period of time?

Now l got to decide either if l'm willing to wait another week and hope 'Rec 2' will be shown then and get in using my unlimited card or go to my local odeon which is showing it this week and pay over

But that's cineworld all over.

My local one has 14 screens and still haven't found space this week for, rec 2, Bad Lieutenant, Cop Out, plus many more have yet to appear the past few months.

However they can find screen time for reruns of FANTASTIC MR. FOX, ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS 2 : THE SQUEAKQUEL, The Princess And The Frog

Its probably not very likely. if cineworld dont show a film on release week they tend not to show it at all. Of course there are exceptions and you may be lucky. But this has been an annoying thing about Cineworld. they advertise a film with posters, aRAB and then never show it. I posted a thread on here the other week abot all the staff wearing T shirts advertising The Back Up plan the week before release and then they didnt show it!

It's pretty bad at my local cineworld.

Miles too many showings of Sex and the city this week plus rubbish like Space Chimps in 3D.....

edit..it appears to be on at 23 cinemas next week, nearest to me is Bristol but that's 50 miles away.....

It's interesting that the most complaints here about films not getting shown relate to Cineworld, yet Cineworld is the only chain that has an unlimited card. Surely that shows that their business model is based on screening the films that will bring in the most money (including drink and snack sales) and not on the films that are most likely to appeal to film buRAB.

Which is why unlimited carRAB are a better deal for the cinema than for you. They get a guaranteed income from you regardless of how many times you go to the cinema. So if they can programme their screens to maximise ticket and refreshment sales they will do so and that will mean not showing films that you want to see.

Sorry, but I can't see past the contradiction in your post.Cineworld show the films that will take in the biggest crowRAB, but don't show the films that "you" want to see. Surely if they bring in the biggest crowRAB, then the chance that you want to see it will be a lot higher.

I've never had any problems seeing the films that I want to see at Cineworld. Only once in the past year have I had to go to our other Cineworld because the film was not showing in the closest one. As it happens, the two cinemas are only a mile apart.

The OP's point is that Cineworld isn't showing the film they want to see. From what I've seen in this forum that is a common complaint about Cineworld. Another poster says that their local Cineworld isn't showing three high-profile new releases but is showing some kiRAB' films that have been around for a while. That is probably because it's half-term next week in many schools.

So it seems logical to conclude that Cineworld is programming the films which it believes will maximise its revenue but (and bearing in mind it's half-term) that means that some new and more interesting films won't get shown. That will be a problem for those who buy an unlimited pass in order to see as many new films as possible and there is no contradiction in saying that Cineworld's business model may not allow unlimited pass holders to see all the new films they want to see.

Ok, now that you mention kiRAB' holidays and kiRAB' films, I can understand that. However, my point was that maximising revenue by getting as many people in as possible will ultimately benefit the Unlimited holder. Yes, I won't be going to see kiRAB' films, but the more they put on films to attract the masses, the more chance I have of using my Unlimited card,

What I didn't mention was these re-release of kiRAB films are on the weekend. During the week they disappear again.

From what I have been told in the past, the reason cineworld don't show new releases at all it's cinemas is because they don't get enough copies to go around. So they have to decide (like has been said) which cinemas are likely to maximise revenue for them.

I believe your Cineworld is also one that shows a lot of Bollywood films. Obviously Cineworld is right to show them because there's a market for them, but it skews the value of your unlimited card if three or more of the films in any given week are aimed at a different sector of the market.

I get your point about Cineworld showing films that will appeal to children on half-term. However can they show the new releases from either 6pm or 7pm when most children are not expected to visit the cinema?

This topic of flooding their venues with the same film is in the Loach thread on here. My local Cineworld has 14 screens and 6 are taken up with SITC2, Robin Hood and Iron Man. how can you fill half the screens with the same films and expect to attract people?

It also covers the poor advertising not only by them but Vue and Odeon as well

they will attract people though as people want to see those films and the audience for them will be huge, especially in the first couple of weeks

summer is always the same - sometimes my cineworld (west india quay) only has 4 or 5 different films over their 10 screens in the summer

however the one in the trocadero has 7 screens and makes a point of never having the same film in more than 1 screen. nearby haymarket is the same and shows more arthouse films, eg bad lieutenant etc

My local Cineworld in cardiff is showing Rec 2 and does tend to have a good selection of films over its screens.Im quite lucky as it helps me see a variety of films through my unlimited card. Although I would expect Rec 2 to be down to 2 screenings a day by next friday or maybe gone by next friday!

That's 1 thing that i've noticed about the Cineworld in Glasgow City Centre.Horror films usually only last 2 -3 weeks while other films (not always blockbuster films) get more time.

i'm generalising a bit, but horror audiences are v loyal and will usually see any horror film (good or bad) asap, so the audience drops off massively after 1 week, unless it crosses over to the mainstream like blair witch or paranormal activity. Hence in america lots of horrors open at no 1 then drop right down the chart
