Cineworld policy on Food & Drink

Yes...i used to live beside 'The Lounge' in Headingley and it was great. Drinking a pint with the film. Pity it has closed down now. Last year i believe.
 
Ive worked in a cinema for the past five years, a UCI/Odeon. Even though there are signs, it is often the case that we dont mind people bringing stuff into the cinema. The only thing that we do take from people is take away food. Would you really like to be sat enxt to someone eating a curry, KFC or MacDonalRAB? No, dont think you would. Believe me we aint doing it for the fun, we get enough abuse and threats from customers without that!
 
Just hid in under your clothes/shove drinks in your handbag (or your partners handbag)

I once went in with a big mac meal and sat down with my chips and fries.

Hehe.

Screw the Cinema.If they were cheap then maybe we would buy their food.

It wouldn't surprise me if they did make more money on refreshments than films, the prices at my local Vue cinema are terrible.
 
and wouldn't pubs be great if you just take in your own drinks?

i reckon they should just ban food altogether, the amount of noise people manage to make with a bag of maltesers! :p

What annoys me is when the guy in front politely leaves his seat for every phone call - going in and out of the theatre every 5 minutes. To be honest, I'd rather he talked quietly into his phone instead.

But, as you say, turning the bloody thing off is the solution.
 
If you're having to take calls every 5 minutes then you clearly haven't got the time to be in the cinema...

I'm a cinema nazi. I'd be chucking people out for rustling popcorn, phones going off, talking at normal volume etc... :D
 
The food is where the money is made, from the ticket a distributor will take up to 80% of the revenue, whereas the profits are much higher on food.

I believe the Cineworld policy is no messy fooRAB, when I'm on the tickets I take that as being things like Pizza Hut or Chinese takeaway. It varies from site to site though.

The food is expensive, but not so bad when you get in for free and have staff discount :D
 
The only real revenue that cinemas have is from retail/food areas. For example, over the first weekend of star wars 3, fox took over 95% of the total box office figures (as far as im aware). Also on films that do not attract a huge audience a loss is often made as the rental cost for the print exceeRAB the money made from tickets.

So should the real question be: Are the film distributors charging too much?

I would pay twice as much for a cinema ticket if they employed a strict no food/drink and especially talking policy. Why do people pay

One of those questions,isn't it? The cost of a cinema ticket, plus the revenue from refreshments, ought to allow for the provision of clean, working toilets and enough staff to keep things running smoothly. But for
 
Talking and people who don't turn off their phones are my two pet hates at the cinema.

Is it too much to ask to put your busy social life on hold for an hour and a bit by turning your phone off?
 
The distributors take the risk in ordering prints and marketing so I guess that is why the rental fees are high. Besides I believe the cost of operating the theatre is taken into consideration when negotiating the rental price so most films will break even.

Will be interesting to see what happens with digital cinema, because the print production and distribution costs go for the distributors, and the exhibitors can get rid of the only unionised and skilled staff left in projection cutting out a lot of costs. There's more flexibility in what can be shown as well. My money is on higher ticket prices and more expensive food!!
 
Exactly, but if you turn around and say something, you would think you are asking the Earth, or infringing on their human rights!!
 
when they took over my local ugc they took away the nestle ice cream selection, so i couldnt get my maxibon. the haagen daaz ice cream are just too expensive, so sometimes ive had to smuggle a 10 pack of value brand choc ices in from tesco if i was hot and wanted an ice! :eek:
 
Quite right too. I understand the 'cinema food being expensive' argument but there are few things worse than someone eating smelly food while you're tryig to watch a movie. Cinemas sell certain types of food for various reasons (noise levels, waste levels etc etc) so someone bringing in chicken and chips and the like - for me at least - takes the mickey a bit.
 
Why do people need to eat during a film anyway? Surely you can go without for a couple of hours!

And the size of the large drinks in Vue (Warner Village was a much better name) are ridiclous. They are like buckets. You then have people up and down every five minutes going to the toilet.
