They don't. Margins at the pump are wafer thin. Something like 85% of the price of a litre of petrol goes in tax to Gordon Brown.

Two cinemas i have been to have signs saying that bringing your own food in (of any kind) is forbidden. I have known it to be enforced as well, and these were separate chains.
I have no real opinion on it as it is private property and the sweets brought in are noisy and annoying often.

Our cinema is like that, if you have a bottle of pop in your bag it makes you feel like a shop lifter or drug smuggler.
