Cinemas showing old films

I have a unlimited cinema card for cineworld and watch 90% of the films that get released, I noticed before christmas that they were showing "Wizard Of Oz".

I'm just wondering wouldn't it be good for the cinemas to bring back blockbuster movies from the past.

I'd love to see classics like Terminator 2, Back To The Future on big screen with remastered sound.

Have you known cinemas to do this in the past.

Sorry, I got confused there. When you said old films I thought you meant films like From Here To Eternity, The African Queen, Double Indemnity or Mr Smith Goes To Washington

The Wizard Of Oz has been digitally remastered which is why it was being shown again. I remember seeing Back To The Future on the big screen and enjoying it. Perhaps more cinemas should in the less busy times show older films again from the 1930s through to the 1990s. Imagine watching the original Poseidon Adventure, The Towering Inferno or even Die Hard on a big screen

Jaws is the one film I'd love to see on the big screen. They did a thing at my local cinema atleast they used to. It was "Mystery movie Monday" or something similar. Basically tickets were cheaper than normal and the film could be anything. It wasn't advertised. So you could end up seeing a decent older film or some complete tat.

I've just notice that our Cinema have a Monday Classic... but classic isn't the right word because the films ain't really that old. This weeks is "Take The Lead".

List Of Films I'd like to see:

Jaws
Terminator 2
Back To The Future
Die Hard
The Exorcist
Nightmare On Elm Street
Robocop

I think its a great idea, there loaRAB of old films id like to see at the cinema, and as alot of the older films are better than ones being made today im sure it would work.
Afew cinemas have been showing older films and they do it alot in usa aswell so i hear.

I've just realised one downside to this though. Hollywood will see that these films are popular and so decide to remake them to make even more money, and then they will tarnish these films for the younger generation who will think that the Ben Affleck version is the better one. Imagine him in a remake of It's A Wonderful Life? I'm shuddering just at the thought

TBH I would think if they did do this the cinema would find that there would be far less audience figures. Generally I don't think people would want to watch old films when they have a choice of seeing new ones. I know that is how I feel about the situation anyway. Part of why ones goes to the cinema is to see something that is unexpected.

OMG Nooooooooooo!

But you're right, it could happen. It's already happening! I was searching for the a spooky old horror from pre-1970 and everyone said I was describing "Puppet Master", except that was made post 1980 and turned out to be an unpleasant gore-fest. However, the plot was actually a bit similar and I've a feeling that "The Puppet Master" is a remake of an old film which has now been forgotten, but as old films tended to be was atmospheric, scarey and spooky rather than sick and gorey.

They do this at a cinema near me on saturday mornings for PG films and one weekday evening for other stuff.
Cant wait to take my 6 year old to see Star Wars when they show that again because seeing it at the cinema is a magical experience I think.
