Cinema: Why Do Some People Bother?

Woah....

I must be in the Polite Cinema Capital of the UK! Nothing's ever happened in the cinema I go to in the ten years I've been going to it.

Some teenagers are noisy before the film starts but they settle down once it does, don't have problems with mobiles and only a few people seem to pop out to the toilet...

Maybe we have stuff in the air conditioning or something. :D

In some theatres they only sell 'none-rustley' sweets - nothing with wrappers or that crunches. Genius! Sadly popcorn and cinema are too intwertwined for that to happen. How about only selling tiny tubs that you'll finish quickly :D?

I'd love someone to answer the OP's question... why do they bother? Why pay for a film and then ignore it? There must be posters around who do it...

I work at a cinema in Lincolnshire and we have intermissions in all our films which helps a lot with people not getting up to go to the toilet..

All the other problems mentioned in this thread should really be sorted out by the cinema staff. Unfortunately in multiplexes these days they simply don't care.
Find a good local independant and you should find a lot less problems.
If people are being disruptive at my cinema (be it talking, using a mobile, throwing popcorn, etc) they are taken out into the foyer and given a warning. If they then continue then they're asked to leave.

Regarding the length of adverts before the feature itself - unfortunately this is not down to the cinemas themselves, rather the advertising companies (either Carlton or Pearl & Dean). Obviously cinemas couldn't stop showing these though because they rely on the revenue generated.
If its the amount of trailers you have a problem with then maybe have a word with one of the staff. Again, in a decent independant cinema they'll take your views onboard.

Should also mention we charge reccommended prices for sweets and drinks at my cinema. Most independants will be a lot cheaper than your Odeons and Vues.

Ah, I should have mentioned that, too. Yes, another annoying thing was the loud guffaws that some of the five behind us were giving out during some mild amusing line or scene. Sure, there were some amusing moments in A Prairie Home Companion, but not every line was a gem (far from it, actually). Yet, if Altman came back to life and was sitting amongst these people, he'd have thought he somehow directed Norbit or whatever else strikes as being supposedly "hilarious". It wasn't that type of film, but nor was it really meant to be, either.

My worst cinema experience was the time a group of (around) 11 year olRAB kept throwing Maltesers at the back of my head...it all melted and made a huge mess in my hair/on my top! And they hurt, too.

The cinemas seem to take no responsibilty for what goes on. There's never anyone from the cinema in the auditorium unless it's some kid chatting to his mates. Why do some peope bother going? They'd be better at the pub!

:o Im one of the ones who usually need a wee :o But i try to hold it aslong as possible so not to disturb anyone! Only during long movies such as Pearl Harbour, Titanic and King Kong I had to go :)

Mobile phones lighting up can be very distracting!

Went to the cinema last night and was surprised .. no1 annoyed me LOL .. when I went to the theatre to see Cats the other night I was sooo annoyed with three girls sat near me .. they just talked all the time and kept moving up and down of there seats!!!

I took one of the wifes frienRAB kiRAB to the cinema on saturday. I was expecting lots of noise and hasle but seing that i didnt care about the film (Zathura: A Space Adventure) and i go for free (child is

I don't understand the toilet goers at all. I go to the cinema all the time and if I haven't been to the loo for a goo dfew hours I'll go before entering the screen just to be safe.

The worst people are the phone talkers. Some people think it's acceptable to loudly talk on the phone up until the opening credits have ended - and from what they say it certainly doesn't sound like an important call. If it's the person sitting behind me and I even express a hint of annoyance at them talking, they'll proceed to kick me in the back for the rest of the film.

Luckily I have a job with flexible working hours and a cinema really near to my workplace. If I finish early I'll go to to see a film and there will hardly be anyone there at all. I NEVER go during school holidays, unless it's a film that there won't likely be any kiRAB & teenagers in attendance.

Actually, tell a lie. The REAL worst cinema goers are the middle-aged people who only go a couple of times a year. I go to the NFT a lot to see classic old films, and the general audiences are so smug and pleased with themselves when they understand a witty line of dialogue, that they will laugh heartily out loud. This will go on approximately 5 times per minute with any Billy Wilder film.

I get all my goodies before going to the cinema from other shops...I only ever buy something in the cinema if I get a hankering for some popcorn...

I have to say, I like it when the cinema is all packed out, on one of the times we went to see Star Wars: Episode III it was packed and everyone was quiet and was into the movie...on the other hand it's also good when there's barely anyone there. :D

I went to see AVP once and I was alone on this row with this guy who had these nervous ticks and kept talking to himself and switching seats...I was worried he was gonna come towarRAB me! Luckily he didn't come any further.

Oh GOODY !! one of my fave topics!!
i will never go to a cinema again ! i have had such terrible experiences over my last few visits it prompted me to buy a Projector.and now luckily i dont need to.i have my own personal cinema and a screen of 9ft acoss !!! its delightful and urge you to go buy one.the one we have is now being sold for under 500 pounRAB and the picture is perfect !

People have no respect for anyone else these days,in or out of the cinema.

Many films were ruined by idiots and god forbid if you dare tell them to shut up !

Theres just some films it's not really worth going to see in the cinema. If it's got big SFX, and is a big action film then it's worth it, but for a drama, or something without big visuals, then I'll just wait unti it comes on Sky or on DVD.

Start watching some decent films, all of you! This is what you get for being multiplex fodder. None of this behaviour ever happens at my local arthouse cinema. :)

When I was at university myself and my boyfriend bunked off lectures and went to the movies to see American Beauty. The place was empty save for us and 3 other people so we sat where we wanted and didn't pay much attention to the seat allocation thinking it wouldn't matter. About 25 minutes into the movie this old enough couple came in clutching their tickets and squinting at all of the seat numbers, as they came near us I just knew that we were in their seats...................they insisted that we move and got really really annoyed that we were there in the first place
