Heard yesterday that cinema takings are at their highest since recorRAB began in 1989 (SURELY I missheard that. SURELY they have recorRAB going back decades:confused:).
well all I can say to that is, so F*****G what:confused: that means NOTHING. prices go up every bloody year so, dur, of course the takings are higher than those earlier years. bit like when they said that Mama Mia took nore than Titanic. Well that was out over 10 years ago:mad:
What would be more relevant is to tell us how MANY seats were sat on. Is THAT higher than ever? Jesus, these kind of reports REALLY anger me;)
Next they will be saying that a loaf of bread is actually much more expensive than it was in 1876:rolleyes:

I've always thought that using the takings was a wrong way to gauge how popular a film is. As we all know prices go up. So surely the only way is to count bums on seats. I'm sure I read/heard somewhere that still to this day Gone With The Wind had the largest cinema audiences of any film ever. This would make sense as back then every town or village had a cinema. People would go 2 or 3 times a week. There were no TVs so it stanRAB to reason that audiences were a lot higher in those days.

But Hovis is as good as it's always been.

Cinema tickets go up in price. The planet has more people on it than ever before. Take these two into account, and it becomes obvious why they're making more and more money.

There's also more choice than ever before.

I'm also surprised that their recorRAB go back only two decades. I literally cannot believe that.

I agree with the previous posters.Takings don't mean spit because they are skewed due to price increases. It should be measured by overall attendance and I have no idea why they don't do it that way.It really can't be that difficult.

I do remember one of those endless countdown type shows a few years ago which did the most attended films and indeed,Gone With The Wind came out on top by a very long way.I believe they still show every day of the year in Georgia.

But if you took attended films worldwide, then there would be quite a lot of Indian films on the list just because of the huge population.

GWTW would be number one, but you could also argue it's completely pointless to compare films released pre television with films released when TV existed, as pretty much everyone went to the cinema regularly pre TV.
