Cinema prices are taking the piss!

Clearly setting up a stage for a concert for each venue which is going to be used for a few days has to have its cost amortised over a very short time period, hence the cost is high.

A cinema is in a static venue, cinema costs today are crazy, I dont go anymore unless for those very few films where the screen size is a benefit. The last time was for Avatar, but that was in Seattle and it cost me

Why pay 2.39 for a drink, sandwich and crisps when you can make your own sandwich and get a multipack of drinks and crisps and it will all cost you less in the long run. It is all convenience really isn't it?

I really like popcorn and I eat it when I am not at the cinema too :) The reason I pay the price of the food is because this is how they make their revenue really and so I don't mind paying for them for the cinema experience. My opinion so don't get angry :D

And what you said about running your own cinema although is a nice thought (I had the same thought if I won the 100 mil on the Euro Millions - and could afford to lose money) But

What the hell!

I wanted too take my dad to see Avatar 3D, in the afternoon. I am a student, he is a senior.

For me, him, smallest drink each and smallest popcorn each...

I wouldn't advise anyone buys food at a cinema, take a bag of revels and a coke zero, that is what I always do costs about

You kinda took my quote out of context there. I was saying that the analogy didn't work. Yes cinema costs but it is because it has to. They have to pay for the films they show you know? A lot of money. So all I have been saying all this time is that the prices are this much due to the costs the incur. I just wish everyone got a chance to run a cinema and see who makes it with

Well yeah, if i had sandwich stuff indoors and crisps. But then I don't eat when i go to the cinema, i go to watch a film.

Not at all.

I think you'd have to be clever about it though. If people thought they could get in to see a film for almost 50% cheaper than the big chains they I do personally think they'd make a special effort.

Fill your daytime schedule with "classic" screenings of older films as well and have the DVD for sale in the foyer. If someone hasn't seen, as a random example, Braveheart, on the big screen and goes to see it in the afternoon for a couple of quid they may well come right out and buy the official DVD there and then.

I think in the evening, you'd make a killing though.

I really do like that idea, if I do win the lottery sometime I will give you a call (well I'll PM you anyway) about going into business ;)

You still have to pay the studios for the rights to show the film which is where a lot of the money goes (I think a local cinema paid tens of thousanRAB to play Pretty Woman on the screen - rumour ;):D) but I do think that idea has potential though.

It's ridiculous.

I don't like illegal downloading, it's wrong and shouldn't be done, and i'm pleased to say I don't do it.

But when cinemas are charging so much, i don't blame people for doing it. It's not just the price though, the pre-film advert time is getting longer, chav kiRAB misbehaving during the film are increasing (with the cinemas doing nothing about it), and the number of cinemas searching and confiscating people of their own sweets is increasing.

You statement seems to say that you think the cinema industry survives on the confections they sell, i have highlighted to illustrate this. Is this your arguement or am i missing something?

No wonder film industry is pushing 3D so much, with those prices, really feel for my brother and sister'n'law with 3 kid's,they can only afford 2D for full 3D film's ,so sad,i always buy from local iceland before i go,even a packet of Sweet's is around

Here is a link to the Economics of the Cinema World. My argument is that yes it seems to cost a lot but it is a necessary evil to stay open unless as the article states they do something about the studios.

So all I am saying is calling the people who are willing to pay Mugs is harsh and a little ignorant of how the world works.
