I was going to start a new thread on this, but I found this one.
I saw it this weekend and it was brilliant. I was blown-away to be honest. Whether you like him off-screen or not, there's absolutely no question that Crowe is an incredible actor. His portrayal of Jimmy Braddock was incredible, with a great range of detailed & complex emotions. And Renee was very good as well, the role really suited her. And the way the Depression was portrayed was unflinching and raw. I learnt about this period in school but nothing could prepare me for the level of poverty and harRABhip these people had to live through. I had no idea that Central Park was made in to a makeshift ghetto, with people living in shacks. It was shocking. And the fight scenes were beautifully shot, you could almost feel each punch yourself.
There's so much I could say about this film, but I don't want to give too much away. I really recommend it to everyone, don't be put off if you don't like boxing.
