Cilla Black on Carol Vorderman: "When She Was Doing Countdown..."

I agree with this. I didn't see the interview but as I was reading it I wondered about the context of the remark. Was it possible that Cilla was referring to Carol's early days on Countdown? Because if so, she does have a bit of a point ;).

Also, re: pot, kettle, black argument - just because the kettle is also black doesn't mean that the pot isn't or that it shouldn't notice this...

AFAIK Cilla has lived in Denham, Buckinghamshire, for donkeys years.

She used to come into the travel agency where my Mum worked in Gerrards Cross and the scouse accent was not nearly as pronounced as when she's on TV/show and there was none of the faux friendliness you see on "the box".

It's all an act.

Cilla is known for being unfriendly when the cameras are not rolling..I think she has the "do you know who I am" syndrome, even though I don't like her, I think she sounds like car crash TV on Loose Women..sounds like fun watching her crash and burn and putting her foot in it..don't you just love watching so called hasbeens making an arses of themselves on live TV??..I do..lol..although I don't think Cilla would notice as she lives in her own world, someone would probably have the awful job of "explaining" this to her..would the ego understand...me thinks not..lol

You're right about her being unfriendly as my daughter's friend is a 'meet & greeter' of VIPs for Virgin and he said that two of the most unfriendly and stuck-up people he's encountered were CILLA BLACK and LULU, whereas two of the most down-to-earth and friendly 'celebs' he looked after were Michael Ball and Englebert Humperdinck... now there's a contrast in people!

She's made a career out a mediocre singing talent and being a cloakroom attendant at the Cavern. Don't know why she's slating Ms Vorderman as Cilla isn't exactly a fashionista with lots of style and panache. That Royal Variety Performance was just . 'Off with her head'.

I just love the 'professional Scouser' routine that affects a lot of Liverpudlian celebrities who now live in Surrey and haven't ventured 'oop North' in years!

A while ago, I came across a forum for cabin crew. I can't remember what it was called but I think I got the link from here!

Anyway, they were discussing nice and not so nice celebrities they'd had to deal with. Time and again Cilla's name kept cropping up as being a "difficult" passenger.

Many years ago I was on a radio quiz called Beatle Drive hosted by Bob Wooler, who was the DJ at the Cavern in its heyday. In the hospitality room after the show he told the story of how Cilla came to be a singer.

John Lennon was keen to 'get to know her better' and she made it clear to him that this would be easily arranged if only John could persuade Bob to let her have a singing spot. John approached Bob, to which Bob replied "But John, she's got the worst ****ing voice I've ever heard!" John's reply was "We both know that, but I'm on for me end away there!".

Cilla got her spot, John got his end away and the rest is history...
